Draft 2017 – Ups, Downs, and Notes - Starters



Good morning.

Here are some of the trending up, and trending down, starters, through end of games 4-10:

Ups:

South Carolina RHP Clarke Schmidt has pitched + outings in his last three starts. One run in six innings on 3-26, eight scoreless (10-Ks) innings on 4-1, and 2-ER, 11-K in 7-IP on 4-7.

Furman’s RHP Will Gaddis has had two excellent outings in a row… 3-31: 8-IP, 0-R, 10-K… and 4-7: 7-IP, 1-ER.

Maryland RHP Brian Shaffer has his game going in the right direction: 3-24, 8-IP, 2-ER, 10-K… and 4-7, 8-IP, CG, 3-ER

Dallas Baptist RH closer Seth Elledge also had two great last outings: 3-25, 2-IP, 0-R, 2-K… and 3-31, 1-IP, 0-R, 6-save

Oregon State RHP Jake Thompson went to 7-0 after his last two outings… 4-2, 7-IP, 0-R, 6-K… and 4-9, 8.1-IP, 1-ER

Maryland RH closer Ryan Selmer’s got it going on in his last four outings: 3-24, 1-IP, 1-K, 0-R… 3-25, 1-IP, 0-R, 3-save… 4-2, 0.2-IP, 0-R… and 4-8, 1.2-IP, 0-R, 4-save

Washington RHP Noah Bremer’s last three starts: 3-25, 6-IP, 0-R, 7-K… 3-31, 8.1-IP, 3-ER… and 4-7, 7-IP, 2-ER, 11-K

Maryland’s other prospect reliver, RHP Mike Rescigno, impressed in April… 4-4, 1.1-IP, 0-R… and 4-9, 2-IP, 0-R

TCU RHP Jared Janczak pitched two scoreless outings in April… 4-2, 9-IP, 0-R, 7-K… and 4-7, 7-IP, 0-ER, 7-K

Wake Forest RHP Peter Dunshee’s last two starts:  3-31, 7-IP, 1-R, 9-K… and 4-6, 7-IP, 1-ER, 6-K

Louisville projected top three pick in the upcoming draft, LHP Brandan McKay, pitched excellently in his last two outings… 3-31, 6-IP, 1-ER… and 4-7, 7-IP, 2-ER, 11-K

Real nice numbers from Oregon LHP David Peterson… 3-14, 7-IP, 1-ER, 7-K… 3-31, 8-IP, 1-R, 11-K… and 4-7, 6-IP, 1-ER, 11-K

Oregon State LHP Luke Heimlich had three good outings… 3-24, 6.1-IP, 1-ER, 8-K… 3-31, 9-IP, CG, 1-ER… and 4-7, 6.2-IP,2-ER

Best outing of the past weekend goes to Xavier LHP Zac Lowther… 4-7, 8-IP, 1-ER and… wait for it… 16 strikeouts!

Downs:

            Louisville RHP Kade McClure went into the tank in his last three outings: 3-2-IP, 3-ER on 3-25… 4.1-IP, 5-R on 4-1… and 6-IP, 4-ER (10-K) on 4-8.

            Kent State RHP Zach Willenan has pitched poorly in his last two outings: 3-25, 5.1-IP, 3-ER… and 4-2, 5-IP, 5-R      
       
            UAB RHP Garrett Whitlock is struggling… 3-26, 2-IP, 4-ER…4-2, 1-IP, 2-R… and 4-8, 1.2-IP, 1-ER

            St. Bonny’s RHP Brandon Schlimm pitched poorly twice… 3-10, 6-IP, 10-R… and 3-17, 4-IP, 4-R… and has since disappeared from the rotation.

            Baylor RHP Montana Parsons had two poor April outings so far… 4-2, 6-IP, 2-ER, 4-BB… and 4-8, 5-IP, 2-R

            Alabama RHP Nick Eicholtz has not pitched well in April… 4-2, 3.1-IP, 3-R… and 4-8, 5-IP, 4-ER

            Tough April for Houston LH starter Seth Romero… 3-24, 5.1-IP, 2-ER, 7-BB… 3-31, 7-IP, 5-ER… and then was suspended for one game for ‘disciplinary reasons’.

            The Air Force LHSP, Jacob DeVries, isn’t flying high lately… 3-24, 2-IP, 5-ER… 4-1, 7-IP, 3-ER… and 4-7, 6-IP, 3-ER (7-K)
                       
Notes:

            Texas A and M RHP Turner Larkins has made only two appearances this year so far, with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.

            Oregon State RHP Drew Rasmussen continues to be out for the season, healing from Tommy john surgery.

            Notre Dame RHP Peter Solomon lost his starting gig.

            USC RHP Mitch Hart is out for the season with labrum surgery.

            The College of Central Florida pitching prospect, Nate Pearson, has not pitched so far this year and I can’t seem to get any information about him.

            North Oldham High School RHP Joe Boyle has informed teams that he has removed his name from the draft and will pitch for Notre Dame next season.

            So far, Seattle’s LHP Tarik Skubal remains out for the season.

            UNC LHP Hunter Williams is no longer listed on the North Carolina roster.

            Kent State LHP Jake Latz is sitting out the season after transferring from LSU.
