Another night, another wild game for the St. Lucie Mets. And another victory.
The Mets outlasted the Dunedin Blue Jays 10-5 in 11 innings on Tuesday at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
After a rough night for the starting pitchers, the bullpens dominated the middle and late innings. Finally the Mets were able to break through vs. Kender Villegas in the 11th. With two outs, Wuilmer Becerra crushed a two-run triple to put the Mets up 7-5. Two batters later Jhoan Urena launched a three-run homer to put an exclamation point on the night.
The Mets were only in position to play the 11th inning after Johnny Magliozzi struck out Cavan Biggio to end the 10th with the winning run on third base.
In the ninth inning, Dunedin’s Derrick Loveless just missed a game-winning home run with a shot to right field. He settled for a double high off the wall and was stranded on second base by Cameron Griffin.
The Mets bullpen went long again. Four relievers combined to one-hit the Blue Jays over the final 6.1 innings. Darwin Ramos and Griffin, who were added to the team earlier in the day as fresh arms, struck out six in 4.1 scoreless innings.
The Mets pounded out 16 hits. John Mora and Anthony Dimino collected three hits apiece. Urena went 2 for 3 with the homer, three walks, three RBIs and two runs. Jeff Diehl had a two-hit game.
The Mets have won five of their last six games. They improved to 4-0 on the road.
The Mets (7-6) and Blue Jays (6-7) play the third game of their four-game series at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. - Press Release
