Daytona 7 - St. Lucie 6

Daytona’s Shed Long crushed a walkoff two-run homer to center field to lift the Tortugas to a 7-6 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Mets scored four runs in the sixth inning to go up 6-3, but the Tortugas chipped away while the Mets missed opportunities for more runs. Alex Palsha came on for the save in the ninth and was greeted by a single from Blake Butler, who went 4 for 5. That brought Long to the plate and he was able to hit the game-winner that completed the Tortugas three-game sweep.

The Mets entered the sixth down 3-2. Patrick Mazeika tied the game on a RBI double. Nick Sergakis then hit a go-ahead single to make it 4-3. Vinny Siena laced a two-run triple with one out to make it 6-3. The Mets were unable to get Siena home from third base.

In the top of the ninth Enmanuel Zabala reached third base with one out, but the Mets couldn’t get him home either. That set the table for Long’s heroics in the bottom of the inning.

Mets starter Andrew Church pitched 5.2 innings and allowed three runs. Jhoan Urena went 2 for 4 with a walk.
