Tom Brennan - OLD MAN HITTING TRACKER VOL. 4

Tom Brennan - OLD MAN HITTING TRACKER VOL. 4

Baseball is a young man's game. Our 2 active old guys, Curtis Granderson and Jose Reyes, have showed the clock may be running out on them.

In another putrid offensive game for the spiraling Mets, Granderson went 0-3, dropping to .159.

Reyes?  0-1, walk, Mets' sole run, hitting an abominable .095.

The oldsters' combined 2017 numbers thru 18 games are:

16 for 126 (.127), 10 runs, 6 RBIs, .194 OBP, 33 Ks, 1 steal.

Mets have lost 7 of 8 despite fine starting pitching? Why?

THE #'S ABOVE SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Too old to rock and roll, until proven otherwise.

Tom, I never understand why minor league prospects like the ones the Cubs and Yankees have promoted are okay to play in the majors, but ours aren't. Is the team that money conscious? I guess they are coupled with the fact that we simply aren't deep with prospects.

When you think that Eaton, Murphy, Turner and Harper could easily score 450 or more runs between them, the Mets' diet of .210 hitting won't nearly get it done.

2 Mets hits Saturday, what will Max Scherzer allow today?

Mack, I think we are a day away from Rosario, who had 3 hits last night and is hitting .387 (all but 3 singles, though) in 16 games. Do you know what the heck is going on with Nimmo? He's been out 40 days now. Not that he is the answer, but he may be better than Grandy at this point.

30+ picks after Smith was made on... Aaron Judge

Regarding Nimmo...

I have CONFIRMED that Nimmo hurt his hand while rehabbing his hammy. Not ready yet.

Tom -

Here's the real problem...

the Vegas outfield last night was Desmond Jennings, Ttravis Taieron, and Josh Rodriguez

Tom Brennan said...

The Mets would never draft an Aaron Judge that high - and that is part of the problem.

Nimmo needs to get healed quickly. Another monthly of Grand like this and the Mets may decide Nimmo is the better choice and cut Grandy.

Jeff Diehl, whom I have never focused on, is rapidly climbing the minor league OF depth chart, mostly because no one else is. He is .333/.435/.538 in 13 games at St Lucie. Good size, rifle arm, strikeout prone. Other than him, Kaczmarski, who has started this year modestly (at least he has a hit in 9 of his last 10 games), and Becerra, who is still not playing in the OF. Ugly.

Tom -

Re Diehl - he also has pitched in relief in 2 games... 0.00... fastball hit 96

96 for Diehl means he has a career fallback as a reliever
