Fort Meyers Sweeps vs. St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 2, 2018) – The Fort Myers Miracle swept the St. Lucie Mets in a doubleheader at First Data Field on Saturday.

The Miracle won the first game 5-1 in eight innings. The Miracle won the second game 3-1. Both games were tied 1-1 in the seventh inning.

In game 1, Fort Myers broke through with four runs in the top of the eighth against Mets reliever Ryan Selmer, who was making his season debut. Luis Arraez started the rally with a single. An error put runners on second and third with no outs. A wild pitch allowed Travis Blankenhorn to score the go-ahead run.

The Miracle would add RBI hits from Taylor Grzelakowski and Lewin Diaz. Jimmy Kerrigan finished the scoring with a RBI ground out to make it 5-1.

The loss spoiled a great start for Mets starter Harol Gonzalez. He allowed just a solo home run over seven innings. He threw 102 pitches.

The Mets got two hits and walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, but a caught stealing a strikeout spoiled a chance to nab a walk-off win.

In game 2, the contest again was tied 1-1 in the seventh. The Miracle ripped off three consecutive doubles by Kerrigan, Diaz and Caleb Hamilton to score two runs and take a 3-1 lead.

The Mets loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning but only mustered one run on a sac fly from Mike Paez.

Miracle starter Andro Cutura pitched a complete game. He scattered three hits, walked two and struck out three.

Mets starter Christian James made his team debut. He gave up just one hit and one unearned run over five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.

The Mets have now lost their last five doubleheader games.
