PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 1, 2018) – It was an excellent Friday for the St. Lucie Mets at First Data Field.
The Mets won the resumption of the May 19 suspended game 3-2 over the Fort Myers Miracle. Then later in the night the Mets defeated the Miracle 6-3 in another full nine-inning game.
The contest from May 19 was suspended with the Miracle leading 2-0. The teams resumed that game on May 20 in Fort Myers and the Mets managed to tie it 2-2 before it was suspended again by rain.
When the teams restarted Friday in the sixth inning, the Mets put Joe Zanghi on the mound and he pitched the final 3.2 innings without allowing a run or a hit.
The Mets broke the 2-2 tie with in the top of the eighth on a RBI single by Desmond Lindsay that scored Dan Rizzie.
Rizzie proved to be the star of the day. In the next game he went 4 for 4. He scored the tying run in the fifth inning and hit a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for a key insurance run.
Mets starter Gabriel Llanes allowed just one run over six innings. He struck out seven and received a no-decision.
The game was tied 3-3 in the eighth with two outs and no one on base. Anthony Dimino started a three-run rally with a single. Luis Carpio then drew a walk. After falling behind in the count 0-2, Dash Winningham fought back to a full count and punched an opposite field single to bring home Dimino. Carpio also scored on the play on a catching error to give the Mets a 5-3 lead.
Rizzie capped the inning with his RBI hit to make it 6-3.
Adam Atkins worked a perfect ninth for the first save of his minor league career.
