There
is chatter out these that one of the two teams interested in the services of P Noah Syndergaard is the Houston Astros.
I
don’t thin Thor should be in the 2019 reboot, but, if the Mets move him, they
need to secure TWO of the following guys:
OF
Alex McKenna – 2nd ranked prospect in
the Astros chain (I did not recommend the 1st, P Forrest Whitley). Solid power and good speed. Hit
.311/7-HR in 2018 for Fresno (AAA). Also hit .141 in 64 at-bats for the parent
team and was expected to play a lot major league ball this season. Didn’t
happen. Michael Brantley, George Springer, and Josh Reddick, along with a talented group of backups,
have him blocked at the major league level. No loss to Houston.
2019 stats in
AAA: 309-AB, .275, 24-HR, 64-RBI
RHP
Corbin Martin – mid-90s fastball, + slider, and
above average changer. 2018 stats in AA: You want one of our team’s most
talented team controlled pitchers, you’re going to have to include one of your
top prospects in the deal.
2019
stats: AAA 9-G, 8-ST, 2-1, 3.13, 37-IP, 45-K
MLB: 5-starts, 1-1, 5.59, 19-IP,
19-K
OF
Yordan Alvarez – Monster power. Plate discipline
has improved. Ranked #34 in BA’s top too prospects. Like McKenna, blocked at
the major league level.
2019
stats: AAA 213-AB, .343, 23-HR, 71-RBI
MLB: 73-AB, .342, 7-HR, 25-RBI
OF
J.J. Matijevic – tremendous hitting ability.
There is concern for his defense, but he can bear down in the off season, like
Dom Smith and Pete Alonso, and turn that image around, 2018 stats in 277-AB,
,277/,350/.538, 22-HR, 62-RBI.
2019
stats: A/AA: 141-AB, .255, 10-HR, 51-K
C
Garrett Stubbs – Solid defensive catcher that
proved last year that he can hit to. 45% caught stealing rate. Blocked by
Christian Vazquez (team option through 2022).
2019
stats: AAA: 122-AB, .221, 4-HR, 24-K
MLB: 25-AB, .160, 0-HR, 5-K

Thor will flourish escaping Rikers South...and is not a pending free agent...so I want 2 of these 3 for his services:
OF Alex McKenna, RHP Corbin Martin, OF Yordan Alvarez
Or no deal.
I think that Hansel Robles is instructive - run out of town last year, which is like being paroled from Rikers South, the power reliever is 3-0, 2.74, 12 saves. I think Thor leaves Rikers and goes to Houston, he will become Justin Verlander. So Houston must pay.
And the Mets need to figure out how the heck to have the Mets no longer be under the Rikers Cloud.
Kyle Tucker is who I want from Houston. He's putting up near-Alonso numbers for his first half in AAA, just 22 and a plus defensive outfielder. I'd consider a deal for him even-up.
Tucker even up would be a good trade, though we do need to start worrying about future rotation pitchers.
Tom -
I like this Alvarez kid
Other teams are waaaay to comfortable in our kid-friendly orange and blue confines, with our David Wright politeness. This is sport, afterall. I remember that us chastising and self-hating our grandstanders, Reyes and, even, Milledge, for the opponents. No edge whatsoever. No stearns, knight, mitchell, or even utley or despicable harper on this team. Worse, they wouldn't be able to function as themselves on our team. I guess that's the point.
Those 'Stros-spects soundin' sweet! Yes!
I likke Shaw and Tucker. Shaw led the PCL in steals last year and plays great defense.
Just to make Mack's heart have palpitations -- would you do Thor for Seth Beer even up? Would the Astros?
Because of Beer's limitations in the OF HR is moving to 1B permanently next season
That's certainly not a position of need, but back to the question...who would blink if that was the offer on the table? I'm thinking the Astros would hang up first :)
Today is my B/day and I'm trying to stay positive but knowing that BVW is making this decision scares the hell out of me. Brodie is now our very own John Idzik and I'm just waiting for the plane to fly over Citi with the "Fire Van Wagenen" banner after TDN article that BVW is a walking, talking traiwreck which is just one of many.
Should be interesting press conferece wih the 'GM that could tade straight'.
