SPOTLIGHT ON ST LUCIE METS YEIZO CAMPOS AND MATT WINAKER
Sometimes, obscure guys step it up.
Such is the case with Yeizo Campos.
The 5'11", 175 righty Campos from Barcelona, Vz, is having quite a year in 2019.
In 2017 and 2018, ERA in the high 3s. Combined 5-9 record, with slightly below a K per inning, in the lower minors.
Not usually a resume screaming that success is coming. Stats that keep you obscure.
But his first pro year was as a 20 year old in the DSL, so he got started late. Could he then be the rare guy who gets BETTER as he learns and climbs the ladder?
His 2019 performances says....YES!
Of course, he missed several weeks this year. Who doesn't?
But when he has pitched, the reliever has done this:
1-0, 0.85 ERA, 31.2 IP, 39 Ks, 3 for 3 in saves.
And an 0.95 WHIP.
We could use one of those for the Mets' bullpen, where (by comparison) Steve Nogosek, who lost this past weekend for the Mets, threw to a much higher 4.99 ERA in Hi A and AA last year.
KEEP IT UP, YEIZO!
Now on to Matt Winaker:
Matt had a good season for Columbia last year: 13 HR, 61 RBI in 124 games. .254/.370/.433. If he played for Columbia this year with
those numbers, he'd be a top dawg.
This year in St Lucie, his season through June 25 was a .139 nightmare. Baffling drop off.
But since then, Matt has rebounded smartly:
18 for 55 (.327), 11 RBIs to raise his average to a still sub-Mendoza Line .191.
Whatever, the 2017 fifth round outfielder has clearly shaken off whatever plagued him up until June 25, and he's got 6 more weeks in 2019 to continue the uptrend.
KEEP IT UP, MATT!

Tom I love me some Campos. Stadium radar had him touch 95 MPH last week. First I've seen him get that high. Sexy off speed.
Winaker I know is extremely hard working. Always notice him out there pregame doing the thing of throwing ball against wall road himself to catch grounders etc.
I really like Campos
WE'LL ALL BE HAPPY CAMPOS IF HE MAKES IT LOL
Campos and Darwin Ramos belong in AA to see what happens. They get lots of swings and misses down here. Gotta test that at the next level.
Yeizo would be a big improvement over the Daze-O most of the relievers have had us experience this year.
Ernest, if you had to pick one for a 9th inning one run lead game, would you like for that most, Campos or Ramos?
Reese, the Mets have been Daze-o and confused for so long, it's not true.
