The Daily Mets Minor League Update - June 14th

Morning.

Player Of The Day an old “blue” prospect that may just have taken longer develop. Cyclones 2B D’Andre Smith went 4-4, 2-RBI, raising his stats to .429 and an .884-OPS. Smith was a 5th round pick in 2022 ( I had him as the 3rd second baseman in the draft ).

Syracuse:

Anthony DiComo - The Mets say that pitcher Elieser Hernández, who has been on the IL all season, cut short his recent minor league rehab stint due to "side discomfort." He threw off flat ground today, but his timeline is not publicly known.

Tim Ryder - Stephen Nogosek has elected free agency per NYM. impeccable timing.

Ernest Dove - Rooting for Stephen Nogosek wherever he goes. Good guy, good family, maybe next team pitches him differently.  Never know. Not easy to randomly eat 2-3 innings an outing.

SS Jonathan Arauz - 2-3, 2-R, .250

LHRP Zach Muchenhirm - 2-IP, O-R, K, 1.03

B-Mets:

JohnFromAlbany - Happy 24th Birthday to B-Mets

Christian Scott.  27th ranked prospect.  He was recently promoted from Brooklyn  where he went 1-0 with a 2.28 ERA, 6 games - 27 Ks in 23 innings

JohnFromAlbany - Happy 23rd Birthday to B-Mets Jose Peroza - Jose is hitting .303/.385/.568 - a .953 OPS with 9 HRs and 33 RBIs in 43 games

Old tweet on recently signed RP Matt Minnick:

Mike Ashmore tweeted on Thu, Jun 08, 2023:

Matt Minnick is listed as being released today by the Yankees.  Led all of MiLB in WHIP last year, and I’m told he was in a throwing program at Tampa this year and was healthy, just waiting for a spot to open.

(have no idea why the Yanks, first, didn’t play him somewhere this season, and second, why they let him go)

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies game against the Portland Sea Dogs at Mirabito Stadium on Wednesday night has been postponed due to inclement weather.

19-year old Andinson Ferrer went 3-IP, 0-R, 6-K and gained his first win of the young season. He has now pitched in two games, going 5.2-IP, 0-R, 10-K, 0.00, 0.53-WHIP.

DSL:

No games played.

Alumni:

Lawn Guyland Bobby - Ruben Tejada made his debut at 3B for the Lng Island Ducks last night and scored the walkoff winning run!

Draft News:

Pro Baseball Radar  - For added context- the Mets are in the top half of the league when it comes to DDP from just Day 1.

Since 2017- they draft at the top fairly well, prob could do better w/ some 2nd rounders (move from 13th to 11th ranked when filtered to just 1st rd). But after that, they stink.

Tejada seamlessly steps in for Murph.

Maybe the Mets should siVoit has tripled and HRd in 7 at bats with Syracuse so far, plus 2 walks - not bad. Feels like Sanchez. Maybe the Mets use this slugger.

Sanchez has 6 HRs and 14 RBIs in 53 at bats. Mets catchers in 2022 hit 7. Nido had one RBI in the same number of at bats.

Pete took infield practice yesterday. He can come off on Sunday if Mets feel it's okay. Report is going forward will be determined by the amount of pain Pete, a guy who has broken his hand twice in the past, can indure.

Come on.

What is DDP? I'm guessing it's not the former pro wrestler, Diamond Dallas Page, who often was referred to by those initials.
