DSL THUNDERCLAPS
Down in the league where teeny boppers abound, the Mets have two teams that are producing runs quite nicely.
As we all know the Mets' colors are orange and blue, so the Mets' teams down there are Mets Orange and Mets Blue.
Mets Orange?
69 runs in 10 games. 14th out of 60 teams. .250/.363/.435.
Mets Blue?
61 runs in 10 games. 24th out of 60 teams. .245/.384/.390.
6.5 runs per game on average.
Excellent run production? Well, very good. But excellent?
Not for that league, although above average. You see...
Two non-Mets teams are averaging slightly over 10 runs a game, and 2 are slightly over 9 per game.
The Yank's two teams, naturally, have outscored the Mets' squads, with an average of 8.9 runs per game so far.
In a 60 team league, 2 teams are tied for 2nd to last with 40 runs scored. Still that's 4 runs per game.
Then there are the lowly Nationals. Their team is hitting a scant .167 with just 16 runs, the latter being the worst - by far.
5 teams have between 10 and 12 HRs.
The Mets' two teams, by comparison, have a total of 14.
6 teams have just 1 HR, though, and the Nats? Zero.
Oddly, the Nats only have 1 DSL team, so to have just one team, and have them hitting so poorly? Wow.
Anyway, it would be nice if the Mets' teams could average 8.9 runs per game like the Yanks' squads, but 6.5 RPG isn't shabby at all.
Just two notes on hitters and two more notes on pitchers:
One LAD kid, Yorfran Medina, is hitting .556/.724/1.444 in 7 games.
Little League stats.
The Mets' brightest spot so far is C Julio Zayas:
In 9 games, .419/.455/.871. Babe Ruth would have loved that slash.
Especially notable is his mere 2 Ks in 35 plate appearances.
The Dominican catcher will turn 18 shortly before the 2024 season.
At the other end, one non-Mets guy has had 26 at bats, and fanned an amazing 16 times. Even more amazing, in the 10 times he didn't fan, he has 8 hits!
Clearly, the pitching is poor in that league, with runs galore, so keep that in mind.
But the Mets have two fine-so-far hurlers:
A 6'7" dude named Franyel Diaz, who has a 1.04 WHIP and 1.04 ERA and 13 Ks in 8.2 IP.
And Jose Chirinos, who has allowed just 2 runners in his first 8 innings (0.25 WHIP), while fanning 12, with an 0.00 ERA, both the WHIP and ERA being league-best stats at this early stage.

One reason the Gardians are averaging over 10 DSL runs per game is that they won their season opener 28-5.
Bizarrely, the Mets’ pitching staffs are also ranked 14th and 24th…in ERA (4.34 and 5.07).
Leagues best ERA team? 1.50.:League’s worst? 9.95. Latter has allowed 115 runs in 10 games.
Of course, the Mets’ 4.34 ERA team has also allowed 18 unearned runs in 10 games.
Miami’s two teams though? In 20 games, 50 unearned runs. Baseball at its most dazzling.
