The Daily Mets Minor League Update - June 19th

Morning.

Tranactions:

RHP Grant Hartwig promoted to Mets

RHP John Curtiss was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse

 Player Of The Day -

So, the FCl Mets score a run in the 8th, that tied up their game with with the Cardinals. So the Cards go out and score three runs in the top of the 9th, upping the ante to 6-3 with three outs to go. No sweat, Sherlock. FCL 1B Yohairo Cuevas hit a WALK OFF GRAND SLAM, raining his BA to .310 and OPS to 1.027. Small sample, but… POD.

Syracuse:

Diane M - (@MetsSouthFla)

Maurico defense is awful, until he gets comfortable at a position he won’t be up. He also can’t pitch. After trade deadline, depending on where team is & who is still here, maybe he comes up then.

John Frascella (@LegendSports7) -

What the Mets have done to Mark Vientos is an embarrassment to the organization and all of MLB.

Vientos was the hottest player in AAA, got called up… then Billy Eppler & Buck Showalter just refused to play him with any consistency. Of course, they killed his hot streak

FCL:

RHRP Ramon Henriquez - 2-IP, 0-R, 2-K

DSL:

B Team -  Postponed

O Team -

RHRP Patricio Trinidad - 2-IP, 0-R, K, 0.75-WHIP

Alumni:

Jon Heyman - (@JonHeyman) tweeted at 2:38 AM on Wed, Dec 21, 2022:

Breaking: Carlos Correa and the Mets have a deal. $315M, 12 years

 Russ O’Brien -  (@RussellTOB)

Once the Bad Dude, stricken by cancer that took him down shortly after last year’s Old Timers Day. Rest in peace John

 Free Agency:

 Mathew Brownstein - (@MBrownstein89)

Shohei Ohtani has 12 HRs, 19 XBHs  & 15 walks over his last 19 games. Here are the players who've recorded at least 12 HRs, 19 XBHs & 15 BB in a 19-game span in a single season:

 Babe Ruth

Jimmie Foxx

Hank Greenberg

Brady Anderson

Barry Bonds

José Bautista

Shohei Ohtani

Shohei is supernatural.

Vientos had a tremendous hard contact rate - hard outs, not hits.

Frankly, whether in-game playing or not, I frankly do not know why Mauricio would not have taken it upon himself in the off season to learn to play the outfield.

If the Mets score 13 runs a game, no hitter gets called up.

A Few Quick Thoughts

1. Maybe the Mets can trade for Zion Williamson?

2. Maybe it is time for David Wright to manage here? He'd be the first ex-NY Met player to do so since Bobby Valentine.

3. Ronnie Mauricio could not have played first base once Pete Alonso went down hurt?

4. How long can the Mets keep doing the "Grant Hartwig up and Tony Curtis down thing."

5. Is Mr. Met still following this team or did he retire from the game and move down to the Superball Resort down in Sarasota?

6. I've been told that Mets brass are currently contemplating using mirrored stealth baseballs when taking the field and pitching.

7. We need a new bullpen farm. Call it "The Joe Pignatano's Farm." He was one of a kind.

I'm not sure if players are allowed to do that

Mr Mack when is the draft? Who do you think the Mets might be interested in? Are you going to do the prospectreviews again?
