2007 HONORABLE MENTION ALL-PAC-10
At Stanford: Three-year letterwinner enters his senior season with the highest career average (.318, 149-for-468) among active Stanford players (min. 100 at-bats), while also leading the club in hits...has added 89 runs, 21 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 56 RBI in 143 games (104 starts)...tremendous defensive outfielder is slated to be the Cardinal's starting left fielder, but can also play center...has perhaps the best plate discipline on the club, and hits the ball to all fields...has the potential to add to his power numbers in 2009...earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention accolades as a sophomore in 2007...is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic selection.
As a Junior in 2008: Played in 52 games for Stanford's College World Series club, while making 36 starts in left field...batted .323 (60-for-186) with 35 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 23 RBI...clutch performer hit at a .385 clip (20-for-52) with runners in scoring position...was also the Cardinal's top pinch-hitter, going 7-for-15 (.467) off the bench...logged 19 multi-hit games, including five three-hit contests...also had six games with at least two RBI...posted a .976 fielding percentage, committing just two errors in 96 total chances...tallied a pair of outfield assists...was at his best in Pac-10 play, ranking second on the club with a .362 average (21-for-58) in 17 games (11 starts)...hammered his only home run of the year May 23 at Washington, a three-run shot that helped Stanford to a 9-4 victory...was red hot over his final 20 games, going 28-for-74 (.378) to raise his final average 45 points (from .278 to .323)...in fact, concluded the campaign on a season-high nine-game hitting streak (all postseason contests)...had five multi-hit efforts over the streak, while batting .389 (14-for-36) with six runs, three doubles and four RBI...went 2-for-5 with a run scored, double and two RBI in Stanford's Super Regional-clinching victory at Cal State Fullerton...went 6-for-15 (.400) with three runs, one double and two RBI in College World Series action, reaching base safely in all four games (two starts)...was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic second team.

August is having a solid season. He has made a smooth transition from left field to center, and is hitting .311 with five homers and 34 RBIs. He also leads the team with 68 hits, is tied for first with 13 doubles and has struck out 15 times in 219 at bats. After participating in the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., last season — Stanford tied for third and August hit .400 —he'd like one more opportunity to play on college baseball's grand stage. "It was unbelievable. It's Disneyland for college baseball players," said August, a 6-foot-1, 210-pounder who throws left and bats left. "Once you go, you realize it's even bigger than people talk about."

Senior Joey August was solid all year for the Cardinal, batting .304 and leading the team with 70 hits on the season. August may get picked up in the later rounds because of his all-around game — he only committed one error this season while manning the centerfield position for Stanford. Though Storen is not the authority on the issue, August’s teammate was fairly certain that the senior would be selected in the upcoming draft. “A lot of teams love Joey,” Storen said. “When guys ask me who I would pick as a fielder, I would pick him because he’s just an all-around good ballplayer, and scouts know that. He’ll definitely get picked up.”
