St. Lucie 4, Lakeland 2 (Game 1)

Lucy won game one of a doubleheader, 4-2.

The Mets had six hits, including Brahaim Maldonado’s (.221) 5th homer of the year.

Scott Shaw, one of 1,345 starting pitchers In the Lucy rotation, started Thursday. Shaw was 6-3, 2.80, in 15 games, 14 starts, for Brooklyn in 2008. This year, he went into the game 1-3, 3.75, in nine starts, and needed a strong start to keep his slot in the crowded Lucy rotation.

Why did C Francesco Pena make the all-star team? He’s batting .211. Was the catching in the Sally League that anemic? The Mets seem committed to playing Frankie every day this year to give him one more shot. They even sent back to the extended camp, two catchers (Dock Doyle and Ralph Henrique) who got off to a great start. No, this is Pena’s year to make it or break it.
