GNATS FLY PAST BIRDS 7-2 WEDNESDAY







Savannah, GA– The Savannah Sand Gnats won their third straight game with a 7-1 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds Wednesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (15-11) collected seven hits and drew seven walks.

Savannah scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the fourth.With one out, 1B Brian Harrisonlined a ball into the left-center field gap, and hustled into second for adouble. After DH Charley Thurber washit by a pitch, C Albert Corderosingled into left field to chase home Harrison for a 1-0 Savannah lead.

The Gnats added a lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on Travis Taijeron’s seventh home run ofthe year to go ahead 2-0. In the sixth inning, 3B Aderlin Rodriguez doubled down the left field line and scored onCordero’s sacrifice fly to put Savannah ahead 3-0.

Savannah starter AlexPanteliodis shutout Delmarva on two hits and two walks through six inningsto earn his third win of the year and lower his ERA to 0.68 (2 ER/26.1 IP).

Delmarva (13-12) scored their only run in the top of the seventhagainst reliever Carlos Vazquez on an RBI groundout by SS Mychal Givens.

The Gnats added four runs in the seventh to put the game out ofreach in an inning when the Shorebirds walked four and committed an error toallow a run to score.  Cordero broughthome a second run with a sacrifice fly. He finished 1-for-1 with a walk, twosacrifice flies and three RBI. 2B TJRivera singled to begin the frame to extend his hitting streak to eightstraight games.

The Gnats send RHP DomingoTapia (3-1, 0.68) to the mound in game two of the series Thursday againstRHP Parker Bridwell (2-0, 4.05) forDelmarva.
