Thoughts on Brooklyn

This is a team still forming and won't be completed until draft day (season starts June 18th); however, it's not to early to speculate some of the players that will be on this team.

Fred and Ethel continue to hold back prospects from a Savannah team that needs all the bats they can get their hands on. There's decent pitching for everyone though.

Let's go position by position:

1B - Right now, you have either Cole Frenzel or Alexander Sanchez to pick from. Frenzel hit .238 last season in a full season at Coney Island and Sanchez hit .254 part time for Kingsport. Sanchez deserves the bump, but you can't 'demote' Frenzel to K-Port, can you? My guess is Frenzel will be sent to Savannah, Sanchez will go to Brooklyn, Savananah's Brian Harrison goes back to 3B, and Aderlin Rodriguez is sent back to extended to contemplate his navel.

2B - You can bet money that J.C. Gamboa will be in Brooklyn ready to add to the growing legend. Well, at least he'll be playing second.

SS - Prospect Phillip Evans will remain at shortstop for at least another year and will be showcased in 'da city in da city'.

3B - Wide open. Joe Bonfe is still looking for a slot and A-Rod could even wind up here in attempt to get his shit together. Look for a draft pick here.

C - Four to pick from (Nefli Zapata, Tyler Carpenter, Xorge Carillo, Amauris Valdez), but none to write home about. In fact, Carpenter might have bee released (Jay?) and Jeff Diehl will probably remain in extended camp with back problems. You might find someone with a name like Strahan or O'Brien here.

OF - Gilbert Gomez, Brandon Nimmo, and whoever the Mets first pick will be. The fourth and fifth pick will be more draft picks, Tillman Pugh, or Greg Pron.

Rotation - Akeel Morris, Juan Urbina, Eduardo Aldama, and Bret Mitchell look set. The fifth slot could be Miller Diaz or Jacob Lugo, but I've got those two in K-Port. Here's a slot for the Mets sup-1 pick.

Pen - Pretty wide open. Probably Brian Venezuela, Chad Sheppard, Hansel Robles, Gabriel Ynoa. Look for some draft starters with mucho college innings being used here in limited relief roles.

Hey Mack,
You said the Cyclone OF will be Nimmo/Gomez/and whoever the Mets pick 1st.
Do you get the sense that the Mets will once again take an OFer..? Do you think they will pick from Almora/Hawkins? Who do you like better?
I really hope the Mets pick RHP Lance McCullers...

I think the Mets know that they are VERY deep right now in pitching, especially starters.

Many of their current seconday prospect starters will also fill up future pens.

No one admits to "positioning", but if you want a bat in this draft, you better pick them early.

I see either Hawkins or Dahl and another one in their 3rd pick, 2nd round (Rocker)

Chances are, whoever is picked first, takes til the august deadline to sign. Same with the sup first pick aswell. Doubt the cyclones will see the first and second picks of this years draft at all. Unless its for a game or two near the end of the season.
