Craig Brown - I May Be Wrong But...

Why not bring back Johan? He seems like a perfect fit to me...He is a lefty, won't cost much, and would be a great teammate and mentor to a young pitching staff. If he gets hurt again, the Mets have plenty of options waiting in the fold. I'll tell you this...his first start back at Citi is a lock to be a sellout...That probably pays his yearly salary right there.

Last year at this time no one was particularly worried about the Mets infield...Ruben Tejada was a doubles hitting machine who would play solid d, and there was little doubt that Ike Davis would continue to crush the ball as he did in the second half of 2012..Fast forward one year, and most of us have given up on these guys. Since then the Mets have added three solid outfielders and developed another, and the young pitching has another year of experience. If these guys could just be what we beleived they were last year, then it could be a fun year to be a Mets fan again.

Why do we allow baseball writers to determine who gets in the hall of fame? It seems to me that there is no larger collection of assholes and morons than these guys...Think about this...Phil Rizzuto, a career .270 hitter with 38 lifetime home runs is a hall of famer, and one of top five catchers to ever play this game is not...Who are these guys to decide who used steroids and who didn't? To me, if you failed a test, or were named in the Mitchell Report you're out...but barring that everybody else should be treated as if they didn't use. I think its time for baseball to name a comittee of 50 veterans, officials, fans, and writers...40 out of 50 votes (80%) gets you in.

Why is everyone so worried about the Mets lineup? Teams have won the World Series before with teams built around 2 dominant starters and little else...The Mets could have four or five by this time next year, and a kickass bullpen to go with them. Personally I hope Freddy and Jeffy, hold on to some cash next offseason too...Because in the not to distant future they are going to have four starters all looking for contracts in the 20-25 million per year range.

I love it when John Sickles posts his annual top 20 prospects lists...That guy really knows histuff and is the best at what he does...It was great to see how highly John thinks of the current crop of young Mets as well. The thing that occured to me, that hadn't before as I read down through John's list is how many guys the Mets could potentially graduate to the mlb club this year. I would say that Syndergaard, Walters, Centeno, Familia, Leathersich, Montero, Black, Degrom, Flores, D'Arnaud, and Den Dekker all have a better than decent chance to spend a signifigant amount of time in the bigs...thats an impressive influx of young talent for one year. I thought it might be fun to look into a crystal ball at what Sickle's 2015 prospect list might look like.

I took into acccount the 14' draft, and guys who I feel like have a good chance at breaking out this year.

 1. RHP Noah Syndergaard A The crystal ball says he logs some mlb innings but not enough to graduate. He'll finish the year as a top ten in baseball prospect.

 2. 1B Dominick Smith B+ The Mets give Smith a more agressive assignment than they have with prospects in the past--He rises to the challenge.

 3. SS Amed Rosario B+ They do the opposite with Rosario, and leave him at a level with players closer to his age. His excelent tools begin to translate to the field.

 4. Michael Gettys B+ Boy I hope the Crystal ball is right on this one...

 5. OF Brandon Nimmo B+ He starts and finishes the year the way he started 2013.

 6. C Kevin Plawecki B Starts the year in AA and finishes up in Vegas. Hits well but without power

 7. 2B Dilson Herrera B

 8. SS Gavin Cecchini B- He shows improvement, but still has the ceiling of the good version of Ruben Tejada.

 9. RHP Robert Whalen B- Has a breakout year, really enjoys pitching in Savannah

 10. 1B Jayce Boyd B- Continues to hit the crap out of the ball, and people start to take notice. First base is going to be complicated in the coming years.

 11. LHP Steven Matz B- The Crystal ball is a little fuzzy on this one. He could stay healthy and be the #3 prospect, but he could also suffer another injury and not make the list at all.

 12. RHP Chris Flexen B- See Whalen. R.

 13. RHP Michael Fullmer B- See Matz. S.

 14. RHP Luis Cessa C+

 15. RHP Gabriel Ynoa C+

 16. OF Ivan Wilson C+ Yeah, ok. The crystal ball is reaching on this one. But the Mets have a bunch of these guys who are just dripping with tools, and at least a couple will break out.

 17. OF Cesar Puello C+ Puello struggles a bit. But plays in Vegas, so he still hits .280 with 15 homers. Which isn't enough to replace any outfielders on the big club.

 18. RHP Andrew Church C+

 19. OF Champ Stuart C+ See Wilson. I.

 20. RHP Domingo Tapia C+ Domingo starts the year in the Bingo bullpen and flourishes in that role. He gets a September call up to the show, and struggles a bit.

Craig -

I love Johan, but I want 2014 to be a year where the kids mature and takeover the future fate of this team.

Pitch Mejia... if he doesn't work, bring up Montero... if that doesn't work, it's on to Thor

Craig,
You make good points, and his leftiness and longshot potential to be really good are intriguing. I think the problem is, outside of any personal issues between Johan and the team management (if any), is that the best veteran import guy would be someone willing to do some time in AAA if need be, in order to provide some veteran insurance should a kid win the job in ST and falter in the regualr season, or if someone gets hurt. I don't see Johan agreeing to that.

WTF is Michael Gettys?

If you want a lefty, then in-house you have Darin Gorski who pitched to a 1.86 ERA in AA this year. He's had enough innings in the minors that he'd be ready for the big leagues though without the traditional hard-throwing stuff that makes scouts go gaga, he's not perceived as having much value. In two of the past three years (with injuries in between) he's excelled.

Herb -

I think that was Craig's attempt to slip in Gettys name as the Mets number one pick this year.

TP- You make a great point about AAA...no way he accepts an assignment there.

Reese--

Gorski is 26 and has logged 13 innings above AA ball.

He's been left unprotected twice, meaning 29 teams had the option of adding him at the cost of an airplane ticket and a 40 man roster spot--and no one was willing to take him.

Herb--

I was just having a goof at what the 2015 list might look like..

Odds are they may try to draft someone in June with that tenth pick.
