^THis is what I am worried about Greg.

Gomez was not nearly the hitter Lagares was in the minor leagues. He was all speed and defense. Once he finally filled out his frame the power came and his speed/power/defense combo made him one of the Top 5 CF's

In Lagares's case, He was a FAR better hitter in the minor leagues, his defensive grades out as better than Gomez's (albeit small sample size), he has enough speed to swipe 15-20 bags, and he's still only 175 lbs and 24 yrs old.

That I cannot see any situation that the Mets DO NOT start him in CF. It would be a grave mistake not to in my opinion.

I see Juan doing .275 + in 2014, 550 plate appearances, 45 extra base hits, 15 steals, .310 on base, great defense.

Setting him up for more improvement in 2015 with a Met team that will have a chance to go to the World Series, as all the pieces come together and we sign a few big guys next off-season to fill any gaps.

Christopher,

You forgot who is managing. It's the same guy who thought Rick Ankiel was his best option for weeks and weeks. It's the guy who kept playing Ike Davis long after it was clear he couldn't hit from a tee.

I can see how he will want to shoehorn Eric Young into LF which will push Lagares to the bench. I'm not advocating it, but I certainly see Collins doing that.

Ugh!

I think Lagares can be a real good all around player. Maybe not too many HRs but everything else is a definite possibility. I say bring in Ricky Henderson to help him and Rubin Tejada to learn the base paths like he did with Roger Cedeno back in the day. I believe any team we field at Citifield should be in the top 5 in stolen bases every year. I think are teams should be put together like are arch nemesis the Cardinals of the 80's, with pitching, defense and speed.

Lagares stole 25 of 30 back in 2010. While no other years like that, he has potential as a base stealer.
