Becerra, Reyes Sally League Players Of The Week

The South Atlantic League office announced today that the Sand Gnats swept Player of the Week honors for June 1st – June 7th. RF Wuilmer Becerra and RHP Scarlyn Reyes took home Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively. Becerra and Reyes are the first Sand Gnats to take home these awards in 2015. The announcement came just one day after the Sand Gnats swept the first place Greenville Drive at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Becerra, 20, was 12-for-28 over seven games last week. The outfielder doubled six times over the same span, giving him a team–high 16, which ties him for second in the SAL. The native of Venezuela also had two homeruns during week. Becerra’s seven homers this season ranks him tied for third in the SAL. Becerra’s biggest night of the week came on Saturday, when he had two doubles and four RBIs vs. the Greenville Drive at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Reyes, 25, made one start this week going seven shutout innings on Friday against the Drive. Reyes allowed just three hits, two walks, and struckout five in the Sand Gnats fourth team-shutout victory of the season. The native of the Dominican Republic holds a record of 5-4 with a 2.86 ERA in 2015. Reyes has won five of his last six starts.

Becerra and Reyes have helped lead the Sand Gnats to victories in six straight games and eight of their last ten. Savannah is also 6-1 in the month of June.
