Trenton Thunder (28-24)
(Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankess)

RHP Gabriel Ynoa (2-3, 4.72) vs. LHP Miguel Sulbaran (3-3, 4.05)

Wednesday, June 3, 2015  Game #52  Home Game #26
NYSEG Stadium   Binghamton, NY  6:35 PM

LAST GAME: The B-Mets were unable to overcome four different deficits in their 6-4 loss against Trenton Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton stranded the tying run on base in the eighth and at the plate in the ninth. Adam Kolarek took the loss in relief, allowing two runs in the eighth inning. He walked three and uncorked a wild pitch to surrender the first run of the frame. Michael Conforto had two hits and three RBI, while Yeixon Ruiz had two hits and scored twice in their home debuts. Gavin Cecchini went 3-for-4, registering multiple hits for the fifth straight game. Aderlin Rodriguez and Jared King also chipped in two hits apiece. Vic Black tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning with a strikeout.

BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Gabriel Ynoa is making his ninth start of the year, and the second of his career against Trenton. The righty is coming off back-to-back losses, allowing five runs in each start. In his latest outing, Ynoa was touched up by Portland, surrendering seven hits in 6.1 innings. He allowed two home runs for the second time this year. It was the first time Ynoa failed to walk or strike any one out in a start this season. He earned a no-decision against Trenton last July, allowing four runs in five innings.

TRENTON STARTER: LHP Miguel Sulbaran is making his 10th start of the year and the first of his career vs. Binghamton. He is also coming off back-to-back losses, allowing 10 runs and 17 hits in his last 11.1 innings pitched. He struck out a season-high seven batters against Akron in his last start. It will be the southpaw’s fourth straight start on the road. Sulbuaran has a 5.96 road ERA, compared to 1.71 at home. He pitched five shutout frames in a spot start for Scranton-Wilkes Barre (AAA) earlier this year.

RETURNING OFFENSE: Binghamton has scored four or more runs in their last three games for the first time since May 7-10 (21 games in between), when they did it in four consecutive games. The awoken offensive attack coincides with the additions of Michael Conforto (four RBI) and Yeixon Ruiz (four runs scored).

SHINING STARGavin Cecchini is batting .411 over his last 14 games, going 23-for-56 with two home runs and seven RBI. He has registered multiple hits in a career-high five straight games, going 13-for-20. Cecchini now has as many extra base hits as strikeouts (16). Cecchini is the third hardest active player to strikeout in the EL (once every 10.8 at-bats).

BACK TO .500: A loss would drop Binghamton back to .500 for the first time since April 25, when they were 8-8. It would be their third .500 record of the season.

CLEANING UP: Jayce Boyd hit .327 in 28 games as the B-Met cleanup hitter. All other B-Mets have combined to bat .121 in 23 games as the cleanup hitter. In total, the cleanup spot has produced one home run and 14 RBI for Binghamton in their first 51 games. Josh Rodriguez is 0-for-10 as the cleanup hitter over the past three games.

WINNING TEAMS: The B-Mets are in the middle of a stretch of three straight series against winning teams. Binghamton faced a team with a winning record in just six of their first 47 games this year, going 5-1. It ends a stretch of 24 straight games against teams with records below .500.

VS. SOUTHPAWS: Binghamton is in a stretch of facing four consecutive lefty starters. The B-Mets are 6-6 against lefty starters this year. Binghamton is batting .249 against lefties, compared to .264 against righty pitching.

He also hit a HUGE foul ball before he struck out

He's a beast. I'm just fine (as long as they progress) giving Nimmo, Cecchini, and Conforto the chance to win jobs out of ST and let them go through their growing pains.

It might be a step back that leads to a huge leap forward.
