June 11th 2015 -- Mets 5, Giants 4

Thursday night at Citi Field Michael Cuddyer’s single in the bottom of the 9th inning brought home Curtis Granderson with the game winner. The Mets walk off with a 5-4 win over the Giants as they salvage the final game of this three game set. The Giants got off to a quick start again in the top of the first off Met starter Jonathon Niese.  Nori Aoki and Joe Panik reached on singles. Angel Pagan walked to load the bases.  Buster Posey then singled to make it 1-0. The Giants took a 2-0 lead when Justin Maxwell hit into a double play that scored Pagan.  The Mets cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th when a bloop single by Travis d’Arnaud brought home Lucas Duda.  In the 5th the Mets took a 3-2 lead when Niese doubled to deep center.  Curtis Granderson singled to make it 1st and third. Lucas Duda hit a sac-fly to score Niese and then Michael Cuddyer doubled to right center scoring Granderson from 1st to give the Mets the lead. It didn’t last. In the top of the 6th Maxwell reached on an error by Eric Campbell at third. That set the stage for Brandon Crawford who homered, his 9th on the year to give the Giants the 4-3 lead. But the Mets fought back. Darrell Ceciliani led off the 7th with a pinch double down the left field line. Granderson then singled him home and it was all tied at 4.  In the bottom of the 9th Sergio Romo hit Granderson with a pitch. Granderson went to 2nd on a passed ball and went to third when Juan Lagares grounded out to 2nd. That set the stage for Cuddyer who singled to give the Mets the win. Niese  pitched well  going  7 allowing just 5 hits 4 runs (2 earned) walking 2 and striking out 4.  He did pitch well retiring 16 of his last 18.  Erik Goeddel and Jeurys Familia each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Familia nabs the win he’s now 2-0. Tim Lincecum started for the Giants and allowed all 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits in 4 2/3 innings he wasn’t involved in the decision. Romo takes the loss he’s now 0-3.  Cuddyer led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBI, Granderson and d’Arnaud each had 2 hits apiece. With the win the Mets snap their 2 game slide. They stand at 32-29 on the year and 22-10 at Citi Field. Coupled with a Nationals loss, the Mets are now back in first place in the NL East by a 1/2 game. Friday night the Atlanta Braves come in or 3 games. Bartolo Colon (8-4 4.52) goes for win #9, Alex Wood (4-3 3.36) goes for the Braves.
