6/3/15

June 2nd 2015 -- Padres 7, Mets 2

Tuesday night at Petco Park, Noah Syndergaard allowed 7 runs on 10 hits in 4 innings. The Padres beat the Mets 7-2.  This game was practically the mirror image of Monday night’s game. It started similarly too as the Mets got off to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI by Michael Cuddyer scoring Ruben Tejada. In the bottom of the 2nd the Padres got to Syndergaard for 4 runs.  Alexi Amarista had a 2 run single to make it 2-0. Will Venable than added a 2 run triple to make it 4-0.  In the 3rd Cory Spangenberg tripled scoring Yonder Alonso for a 5-0 lead. In the 4th Derrick Norris capped the scoring against Syndergaard with a 2 run homer, his 5th homer on the year. The Mets made it 7-2 in the top of the 6th when Wilmer Flores singled to score Cuddyer from 2nd. At the plate for the Mets; Cuddyer went 3 for 4 in an otherwise quiet offensive game, Tejada continues to smoke going 2 for 4. Syndergaard struck out 10 despite getting hit hard. He gets the loss falling to 2-3. Ian Kennedy allowed 2 runs in 6 innings while striking out 8 to earned his 3rd win. He’s 3-5. With the loss the Mets fall to 29-24 overall and 8-16 on the road. The Nats won on Tuesday so the Mets find themselves 1 game behind in the NL East.  Wednesday night is the rubber game of the series.  Dillon Gee (0-2 3.86) makes his return for the Mets. James Shield (6-0 3.69) goes for San Diego.

Kennedy is a good comp for Dillon Gee.
