June 3rd 2015 -- Padres 7, Mets 3

Wednesday night in San Diego, the Padres jumped all over Dillon Gee in his return to duty. The Padres beat the Mets 7-3. Gee had a rough time of it on the night allowing 7 runs.  In the 1st the Friars took a 2-0 lead when Gee hit Yonder Alonso with the bases drunk to force home the 1st run.  Will Middlebrooks sac-fly brought home the 2nd run. In the 4th will Venable connected for a 2 run single scoring Cory Spangenberg and Alexi Amarista for a 4-0 lead. In the 5th Gee’s throw home on an Alonso comebacker sailed wide of Anthony Recker's glove scoring Justin Upton to make it 5-0, Middlebrooks followed with a  two run single and a commanding 7-0 Padre lead.  The Mets scored their runs in the 6th and 7th off James Shield in the top of the 6th when the red hot Ruben Tejada doubled down the left field line scoring Curtis Granderson, in the 7th Recker singled to center scoring Wilmer Flores. In the 9th Kevin Plawecki's pinch hit double drove in Recker with the games final run. Once again, Ruben Tejada had 2 hits, going 2 for 4 pacing the Met attack. Gee went 4 allowing 8 hits 7 runs (4 earned) while walking and striking out 1.  He gets the loss falling to 0-3.  Shields went 7 he allowed 6 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 2 and struck out 4 improving to a perfect 7-0.  Once again, as last night, the Mets bullpen threw  3 + innings scoreless relief of starters who didn’t make 5 innings. With the loss the Mets fall to 29-25 on the year and are now 8-17 on the road. Thanks to a 8-0 Blue Jay win over the Nats on the night, the Mets remain ½ game out of first in the NL East. Next up the Mets are off to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in a 4 game set. Thursday night Matt Harvey (5-3 3.11) goes for the Mets, Jeremy Hellickson (2-0 3.38) goes for the Dbacks.
