Mets Minor League Games - 5-31-15

Two up, two down last night for the Mets farmlands.

Minor League Player of The Night - Aderlin Rodriguez, Dominic Smith, and Matt Oberste with stellar offensive nights.

Honorable Mention - Joe Tuschak's first game with the Gnats went very well.

AAA - Nashville (23-27) 1  -  Las Vegas (29-22) 0

    LHSP Steven Matz -  5.0-IP, 3-H, 1-R, 2-K, 2-BB, 1.98

    RHRP John Church  -  2.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 3.54

    LF Jayce Boyd  -  1-2, .375

Brilliant start by Barry Zito: the game's only run scored on a 2 out double off Steve Matz in the first.  Matz went just 5 fine innings, could he being prepped to start for the Mets on Friday?

Vegas hitters like Matt Reynolds have gone frigid, as the recent losses mount.

AA - Binghamton - (26-24) 5 - Altoona (28-20) 3

    RHSP Seth Lugo -  6.0-IP, 5-H, 3-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 2.82

    RHRP Vic Black -  1.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 1-K, 1-BB, 0.00

Mack - Black continues to impress at his AA rehab, but the radar gun wasn't working properly at the stadium so I have no read on his velocity

Another nice start by under-the-radar Seth Lugo.

    LF Michael Conforto -   1-3, 1-R, triple, 1-RBI, .200

    1B Aderlin Rodgriuez, 3-4. 2 HR (6), 2 RBI, .243

Mack - Conforto got his first AA hit, a triple, that scored a run.

3 late unearned runs let to Binghamton's win, picked up Matt Koch in relief.  Always dependable Paul Sewald nabbed his 9th save.

A+ - St. Lucie (25-25) 10 - Ft. Myers (24-26) 4

    RHSP Miller Diaz -  6.1-IP, 3-H, 4-R, 4-K, 4-BB, 3.45

    1B Matt Oberste -  4-5, 3-R, 2-doubles, 2-RBI, .279

    DH Dominic Smith -  3-5, 2-R, double, 4-RBI, .260

Mack - Smith is doing a wonderful job of bouncing back from a slow start, but he continues to be a gap hitter at best and is still lacking the power that was projected by scouts before the draft.

Smith has been on doubles surge, with 13 doubles and 23 RBIs in 19 games.

A - Charleston (24-26) 9  -  Savannah (24-26) 3

    RHSP Corey Oswalt -   4.1-IP, 7-H, 6-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 4.96

    LF Joe Tuschak -  2-2, 2-R, 2-triples, 1-RBI, .500

    LHRP Paul Paez  -  2.0-IP, 2-H, 1-R, 0-K, 0-BB, 0.96

Cory's continuing to allow a lot of hits.

Rookie - DSL 1 -  no games scheduled

Rookie - DSL 2 - no games scheduled

GOAT:

Cory Oswalt

Smith turns 20 in 2 weeks. He may be a real factor yet, and perhaps sooner than everyone thinks, if his hitting the past 19 games is no fluke. Can he play 3B?
