6/14/15

Mets Minor League Games - 6-13-15

All 4 regular squads are winners. Both DSL teams too.

Minor League Player of The Night - Matt Bowman

Honorable Mention - Michaels - Fulmer and Conforto

AAA - Las Vegas. (34-29) 10 - Reno  (26-36) 5

    RHSP Matt Bowman - 6 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0K, 2 BB, 6.34

Vegas jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, added 2 more in the fifth, and a five spot in the seventh. Vegas relievers allowed 5 runs late. Red hot Wilfredo Tovar was 3-4 with a walk and 2 more steals (19). How about him up, Muno down?

Johnny Monell had 2 doubles and 3 RBIs, and lined into a double play in the 8th inning, and is hitting .378.  Great bat to keep in the minors forever, I guess.  Conrad and Allen both homered.

AA - Binghamton (30-30) 7  - New Britain (35-25)  2

  Gm 1 -  RHSP Michael Fulmer -  4.0-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 5-K, 0-BB, 3.44

                 2B L.J. Mazzilli -  2-4, 2-R, double, .250

                  1B Brock Peterson -  2-3, 1-R, double, 2-RBI, .360

This was completion of a suspended Friday night game, which is why Fulmer only tossed 4 excellent innings.

3 RBIs from Josh Rodriguez helped the cause; the 3 gave him 41 RBIs for the year.

    Game 2 -  Binghamton  2  (31-30) - New Britain (35-26) 1

          RHSP Robert Gsellman -  6.0-IP, 6-H, 1-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 5.06

          RHRP Paul Sewald  -  1.0-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 10-Sv, 1.59

           LF Michael Conforto  -  1-3, 1-R, 1-HR (2), 1-RBI, .372

A welcome sweep for the B Mets. Gsellman in his best AA start; he is 7-2, 2.55 for the year. Conforto the Amazing already has 10 AA RBIs in 10 games.

A+ - St. Lucie (31-31) 7 - Palm Beach (29-33) 3

    RHSP Rob Whelan - 7.1-IP, 4-H, 2-R, 5-K, 3-BB, 3.11

    DH Dominic Smith -  3-4, 1-R,  1-RBI, .284

    C Colton Plaia -    1-4, 2 RBI (25), .300

Seven errors between the 2 squads, no unearned runs. Huh? Whelan another solid outing. Smith is on a major hitting roll.

A - Hickory (39-22) 3  -  Savannah (34-28)  2

    RHSP Corey Oswalt -   7.0-IP, 6-H, 3-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 4.60

    RF Wuilmer Beccera  -  2-4,  .289

  2B Jonathan Johnson 2-3, BB, .340

Insufficient offense last night wasted a strong performance from Oswalt.

Rookie - DSL 1-Mets (6-7) 4  -  DSL Rojos (3-10)  2

    RHSP Edwin German  -  5.0-IP, 5-H, 0-R, 2-K, 1-BB, 4.91

Rookie - DSL 2 -Mets (8-5)  2  -  DSL Braves (3-10)  1

    RHSP Marbin Montijo  -  2.0-IP, 3-H, 1-R, 3-K, 0-BB, 7.71

    3B Angel Manzanarez  -   4-6, .375

How odd, that on a day that the Mets lost 3 to 1 to the Bravess partly because Familia was on maternity leave, that this DSL team beat its Braves counerpart in 15, with (yes) a dude named Familia getting the win.

Jonathan Johnson is hitting .370/.470/.560 in 36 games in May and June.

Dominic Smith, after hitting .143 over his first 63 at bats, is 46 of 131 (.351), with 21 extra base hits, and 30 RBI's.

Two impressive surges.

I'd also like to push aside some of the mediocre AAA pen guys soon, and get Sewald up there in a leading role. That would leave a AA closer slot open for Akeel Morris. It's time. Cream rises to the top.
