I found an article written by Craig
Edwards over at Fangraphs http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mlb-teams-with-the-most-dead-money/ particularly interesting. It was all about’ dead
baseball money and ranked the teams defined under that title. Edwards defined
‘dead money’ as:
“dead
money comes from three areas: money sent with a player in trade, money owed to
a player released by the club, and money owed to a player who’s still in the
organization but has been removed from the 40-man roster after passing through
waivers.”
I opened this post because I was sure I was going to
see the Mets listed here, but they were not in the top 19 teams listed with
dead money. In fact, they had the highest return of dead money from one player,
the $21.5mil that was still owed to Jose Reyes when
Colorado cut the cord.
Check the article out…
David Rubin sent me an article that The -30-
https://30letter.wordpress.com/2017/03/09/a-qa-with-adam-rubin-on-15-years-covering-the-mets-his-departure-from-espn-and-what-really-happened-with-omar-minaya/ had with ex-Mets writer, Adam
Rubin. It’s simply classic and, based on the fact that I was there when
many of this happened, totally honest. It gives the reader Adam’s side of the
Omar fiasco and covers how much the sports beat has changed since he started
covering the Mets 15 years ago, You can’t miss this one.
Did you know that ex-Met RF Ryan
Church’s career was ended by a concussion? Well, Rick Macleod of
Baseball Prospectus http://mets.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2017/03/10/ryan-church-and-the-concussion-that-ended-his-career-the-last-out-at-shea/ wrote an outstanding article on this, which included
some face time with Church. Check it out.
Gotham Baseball https://gothamnation.wordpress.com/2013/01/05/farewell-to-the-kid-a-look-back-at-2012/ put up a great re-print of a farewell story to Gary
Carter that was originally posted on January 5, 2013. If you’ve never read
this, do so now. If you have, do it again.
And lastly… go to https://www.amazon.com/Casey-Stengel-Baseballs-Greatest-Character/dp/0385540477
and chuck down the ching needed to purchase Marty Appel’s
now book on the beloved ex-Mets curmudgeon manager,
Casey Stengel.

Today's tally...Cespedes 0-3, Tebow 2-3. Just reporting the facts :)
there's a leak on my site...
David Wright is DEAD MONEY...it's not captured here
I thought the same thing eraff
Tom -
Mets made a QO to Tee-Ball today... go away...
Mack,
Great links, especially the Adam Rubin link. Thanks.
Regarding Mr. Wright, he is not dead money at this point in time. He is on the DL, and unlike most any other player on the DL, the Mets are on the hook for 25 cents on the dollar right now, until such time, if ever, that he can appear in a real MLB game.
The Mets and/or Alderson were very wise to insure the DW contract. They were very wise NOT to engage Harvey in multi-year contract talks for guaranteed money. They have been wise to hod off on those talks with the other young guns. The Cespedes dea is the only major risk they have underttaken, and that risk is likely minimal. They have the team very well poised financially.
They should really test Tebow and bat him clean up today, and stop coddling him :)
Somewhere, Wright is rehabbing and stretching. Not during a game, though.
