Binghamton 2 - Hartford 1

HARTFORD, CT – Binghamton outfielder Jhoan Urena blasted a two-run homer, starter Nabil Crismatt powered into the seventh inning, and the bullpen shined in the Rumble Ponies’ 2-1 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats on Monday night at Dunkin Donuts Park.

After the teams traded zeroes in the first six innings, Urena finally cracked the scoreboard in the seventh. Following a leadoff walk by Matt Oberste, Urena deposited reliever Mitch Horacek’s first pitch into the seats beyond the wall in left-center. Urena’s second longball of the season gave Binghamton a 2-0 lead.

Yard Goats hitters were baffled for the first five innings by Crismatt. The Rumble Ponies righty needed just 54 pitches to get through five. Hartford loaded the bases in the sixth, but Crismatt coaxed an inning-ending double play ball out of Brendan Rodgers to end the threat.

Hartford broke through against Crimsatt in the seventh. Sam Hilliard doubled to open the inning and came home when Ryan Metzler threaded a double down the left-field line.

Following a sacrifice bunt, reliever Joshua Torres took over and notched two outs, stranding the potential tying run at third base. The right-handed returned for the eighth and side-stepped Mylz Jones’ leadoff single to post a scoreless inning. Tyler Bashlor worked a perfect ninth to claim his fifth save.

Crismatt (3-1) allowed one run and scattered five hits over 6-1/3 innings, his longest outing of the season. He struck out two Yard Goats and walked one.
Horacek (0-2) suffered the loss in relief.

The Rumble Ponies (14-13) continue their three-game series against the Yard Goats on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Marcos Molina takes the hill against RHP Parker French.

POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton is 5-2 in one-run games, the best record in the Eastern League…Tim Tebow went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk…Matt Oberste extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single in the fifth inning

2nd homer for .247 Urena (7th season) - Tebow (2nd season) still a little better so far - just saying. And better than Mazeika (.200).

Crismatt stock continues to climb. Nice.

Alonso on base 4 times. Nice.

That Adam Smith said...

Alonso out of his two-game slump. :-)

Adam, Alonso feels like a future star, not a future "I hope he's a star, or at least decent player" like we've had so many of.
