BINGHAMTON, NY – In front of 6,311 fans, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies avoided a series sweep by edging the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 6-4, Thursday morning at NYSEG Stadium. After collecting just two runs on seven hits 

in Wednesday’s doubleheader, the Ponies rallied for 14 hits to earn their two-run win. The victory was the Rumble Ponies first nine-inning game since May 17.

Already tied 3-3 in the fourth inning, Binghamton would push across the go-ahead run on a bases loaded walk. With two outs and Tim Tebow on first, Joey Wong singled to keep the inning alive, pushing Tebow to second base. After a two-out walk to Jeff McNeil loaded the bases, Peter Alonso drew a base on balls. His league-leading 32^nd walk pushed home Tebow to give Binghamton a 4-3 lead and ended the night for Flying Squirrels starter Jordan Johnson. 

Scott Copeland (3-0) held Richmond scoreless after the fourth inning. The veteran right-hander twirled seven innings, allowing all three runs in the first four frames. The 30-year-old whiffed six and issued two walks. 

Johnson (5-4), meanwhile, tossed just 3-2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs. He struck out five Rumble Ponies and walked two. Three of his four losses this season have come on the road. 

Mazeika gave the Rumble Ponies some insurance with an RBI single in the sixth inning. His run-scoring knock came just one batter after a Dillon Dobson error at third base, extending the frame for Mazeika’s bat. 

McNeil singled home John Mora in the seventh inning to cap the scoring for Binghamton. Mora was aboard after collecting his second triple of the game. 

A trio of Binghamton relievers limited the Flying Squirrels to one run over the final two innings. David Roseboom, Joshua Torres, and Eric Hanhold allowed two hits and whiffed three Richmond batters. 

Binghamton (23-22) welcomes in Bowie for a four-game series starting Friday night. RHP Mickey Jannis gets the ball in the series-opener against Bowie’s RHP Brian Gonzalez.
