Press Release:
ERIE, PA – Binghamton starter Nabil Crismatt fired 7-1/3 innings of one-run ball to guide the Rumble Ponies past the Erie SeaWolves, 2-1, on Tuesday night at UPMC Park. Relievers Daniel Zamora and Joshua Torres combined to strand the potential tying run on third in each of the final two innings in Binghamton’s fifth win in six games.
Crismatt found his groove after allowing a sacrifice fly to Danny Woodrow in the third inning. The drive cut Binghamton’s lead to one, but opened a stretch of seven straight batters retired by the Colombian righty. From the third inning through the seventh, Crismatt set down 15 of 17 Seawolves, racking up four strikeouts during the run.
He exited with one out in the eighth after surrendering a hit to AJ Simcox. Will Maddox rolled an infield single against reliever Zamora to put runners at the corners. With the tying run at third, Dominic Ficociello skipped a chopper to short, Joey Wong speared the bouncer and fired to first to end the inning.
Erie had one last gasp in the ninth against Zamora. Josh Lester pelted a leadoff triple off the wall in left-center and was replaced on the bases by Sergio Alcantara. Zamora bounced back to fan Chad Sedio and Kody Eaves before handing off to Torres. The Rumble Ponies righty struck out Jake Rogers, keeping Alcantara on third, to claim his first career Double-A save.
Binghamton’s two-run first inning against Erie starter Sandy Baez was enough. Baez opened the game by plunking Levi Michael with an 0-2 pitch before walking Peter Alonso. With two outs, Kevin Taylor laced a double to the left-field alley. His eighth two-bagger of the season brought home two.
Baez cruised into the seventh inning after his hiccup in the first. The SeaWolves righty mowed down 19 of the last 20 Rumble Ponies he faced, capping his night by retiring the last 13 hitters.
Crismatt (6-2) allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out five to claim his fourth win in five starts. Baez (0-4) was handed the tought-luck loss.
The Rumble Ponies (27-23) continue their three-game series in Erie on Wednesday at 6:05 PM. RHP Scott Copeland takes the hill against RHP Spencer Turnbull.
POSTGAME NOTES: Nabil Crismatt’s 7-1/3 innings were the most by a Binghamton starter this season…Binghamton improved to 9-4 in one-run games this season…Joshua Torres has stranded 13-for-14 inherited runners

Nabil is impressing. Another Dillon Gee?
TB:
I like Nabil Crismatt a lot. Him, Drew Smith, Tim and Dave Peterson (the Peterson brothers), Roseboom (my God we need a fastball lefty later inning from this pen!), and a couple of others as well getting close now.
The whole Mets team showed up last night, great win over the Braves. Tim Peterson was very impressive and fought through the anticipation of being new to here. Should have a home here with the parent club. Tim will be lights out once he kicks up his fastball 2-3 more mph which is a very doable thing for him. Overall good control, multiple pitches, but 2-3 more mph on his heater will give him the separation from his 80 mph secondary pitches. Right now, his fastball is 91/92 which is fine but 94 mph is attainable I think too. Glad to see him do well.
What also really impresses me right now...
There is quietly happening here on these 2018 NY Mets a gelling of a very nice younger player nucleus. It is wonderful to be seeing this for us fans, we have been waiting for this exact thing three seasons. My guess, is that by season end there could be a five younger player nucleus in effect here, all starting positions.
Another player that really impresses me is definitely Jose Bautista. I cannot believe he is 37 years old. His body has under 2% body fat (if that) and he plays like he is still 29 years old. Man Jose, bottle it if you can! Unbelievable player with a gorgeous swing and batting mechanics. Can smack them over the wall too, which we need on a more regular basis. I think a great player to be a role model and leader to the Mets younger players up here now. Bautista can play well from both third and the corner outfield positions, has a really decent arm too. Still quick too.
Absolutely fabulous grab by GM Alderson! Kudos there!
Keep it going Mets! This thing ain't decided yet and you are in line now.
Anonymous - thank you for your thoughts.
The young guys are energizing this team. I am concerned with the older guys - will Cespedes return healthy and when) and Bruce (way off his early pace of 2017).
Nimmo has amazed me and proven me wrong.
I think Alonso and McNeil could add further fuel to the youngsters' flame, if and when they get called up.
Crismatt might just get called up too - very few viable AAA options if they need a starter, so hopefully, he is getting geared up for that.
How they deal with Bautista when Cespedes returns should be interesting...Nimmo should play a lot, as he has been their most productive OF. How they use Conforto, Cespedes, Joey Bats, and Bruce will be quite a challenge.
Bruce and Cespedes would be hard to move with over 2.5 big $$ years left on their contracts.
Kaczmarski might be almost ready to be a 5th outfielder too.
Tim Peterson seems a lot like Paul Sewald, so: pitch well, stay here.
