Tacoma 8 - Las Vegas 6

Press Release:

The Rainiers defeated the 51s, 8-6, in the opener of the brief five-game homestand before a FIREWORKS/Military Appreciation Night crowd of 7,321 at Cashman Field.

Tacoma built a 6-0 lead after 2 ½ innings and center fielder Taylor Motter was 2-for-5, three-run homer in the third inning, 4 RBI.

Las Vegas left-hander Aaron Laffey suffered the loss. He pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits, 7 runs (6 earned), walked 2 and struck out 5.

51s right fielder Matt den Dekker was 3-for-5, triple, RBI, three runs scored and shortstop Phillip Evans was 2-for-4, walk, solo homer.

Cody Martin starts tonight for Vegas.

I have a theory.

I think the Mets are signing all these AAAA starters (Worley, Laffey, Martin) and placing them in the Vegas rotation, just so they can get through this miserable season in that league and not play with heads of real prospect pitchers (Conlon, Flexen, Oswalt) by inflating their ERA/WHIPs playing on the surface of the moon that the PCL League is.
