Kissimmee and St. Lucie Split Doubleheader

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (May 15, 2018) – The St. Lucie Mets and Florida Fire Frogs split their doubleheader on Tuesday at Osceola County Stadium. The Mets rallied late for a 4-3 win in game 1, while the Fire Frogs recovered to win the second game 4-2.

In the first game, the Mets were down 3-2 and down to their final strike in the last (seventh) inning. Ian Strom grounded a ball to shortstop that Ray-Patrick Didder bobbled. Andres Gimenez scampered home to tie the game. The next batter Luis Carpio punched a go-ahead RBI single into right field to bring home Kevin Kaczmarski and put the Mets up 4-3.

Ryder Ryan retired the Fire Frogs in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. Ryan earned his first FSL victory.

The Mets had a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth but squandered it when Garrison Schwartz hit a two-out, two-run single to briefly put the Fire Frogs ahead. Gimenez started the Mets seventh-inning rally with a double.

Mets starter Justin Dunn was activated off the DL and threw four efficient innings. The only run against him was an inside-the-park home run for Alejandro Salazar.

In game 2, the Mets were sloppy early and the Fire Frogs scored a couple of unearned runs over the first two innings.

Florida’s Kevin Josephina, who came into the game just 2 for 30 on the season, went 2 for 4 with two RBI, a run and two stolen bases. No. 9 hitter Marcus Mooney went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Mets starter Michael Gibbons allowed seven hits and four runs (two earned) in 3.1 innings.

Anthony Dimino and Desmond Lindsay each had a double and scored a run. Dimino extended his hitting streak to six games.

The Mets (16-20) and Fire Frogs (15-23) continue their series with a regular nine-inning game on Wednesday. Scheduled first pitch at Osceola County Stadium is 6:31 p.m.
