It's time for this rule to go! David Peterson allowed one run in 4.2 IP. Every other Mets pitcher combined for 2.1 IP. Peterson should get the win.

Ohtani 22 HRs? Means RUTH in Japanese. Conforto is not that. Dont pay him as if he was.
Peraza the soon-sitting Beast.
McNeil, we need you.
Joey elbow? Good grief.
I missed game 2, just saw Almora had 2 doubles. Maybe this reset version of Almora will HIT? We need all the hitters we can get.
Funny on Facebook how Lindor fans erupted with his big game. But that was one game. In the 6 others of his recent 7 games, he was 2 for 20. We need more big games from Frankie and fewer hitless ones.
Mets will be in a tough place with Conforto. With no one to replace him in the minors - they may need to pay him.
And... soft 2022 OF FA market
Why not McNeil in the outfield in 2022 and sign a big free agent IF instead of Conforto? Can we assume that Alex Ramirez could be 2024? Carlos Cortes could replace Conforto, or Mauricio, as outfield starters by 2023. Sign best offensive FA player available, in terms of best contribution over the long term.
I don't think that replacement will be Khalil Lee. I still see him as a back up. Hope I am wrong.
Nice .429 OBP in about mid 80s AAA plate appearances, but 26 Ks in AAA in those 22 games is concerning to me. Time will tell. Lots of AAA games left this year to improve. Their season ends Sept 19 this year, so that is 3 months of games. Feels a lot like Kirk Nieuwenhuis to me. Puzzling - he stole 53 of 65 in 2019, in 129 games, but just 3 of 5 in 22 games this year, despite being on base 26 times in AAA excluding his HR.
I guess in part it depends on if the Mets are stuck with Cano in 2022. If so, maybe they target pitching free agents this off season in a big way.
Think the Mets will try to once again get guys like Walker, Pillar, Villar...guys that are major league players but cost less. This way they can fill multiple positions.
Much too early to plan, unless we're talking about July trades.
Even if Cano (likely) doesn't return, between JDD, McNeil, Villar and Guillorme, 2B/3B are covered.
In the OF, Dom, Nimmo, Pillar and McKinney (if he continues to produce as he has so far) are fine even if 4to leaves, though IMO he'll stay. And there has been talk of McNeil shifting to OF.
Can/should we look to upgrade at any position? Sure, but that's far from "need to".
The pitching situation is the question mark. If Carrasco and Thot are healthy, and Thor and Stro are re-signed, we have a fine rotation, backed up by Lucchesi, Peterson, Szapucki and Megill.
So who, other than guys already on our team, do we "need " to target?
