B-Mets - Game Notes

LAST GAME:

The Harrisburg Senators led wire to wire in a 4-1
win over Binghamton last night to secure the series win. The
Senators plated three runs in the first inning off starter Jenrry
Mejia, who was starting for the first time since June 23 after
spending over a month on the disabled list with a finger strain.
Mejia walked the first two hitters in the frame, and Joel
Guzman drove in both with a two-run double to right. He would
later score on a Marvin Lowrance RBI single to cap the scoring
in the frame. The Mets responded with their only run in the
last of the inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from D.J.
Wabick. After losing to Binghamton August 6 at Metro Bank
Park, righty Erik Arnesen allowed just a run in 5.1 innings to
record his seventh win. He retired 12 in a row before allowing
a double to Ike Davis in the sixth, which led to his departure.
The Sens plated their final run in the sixth on an RBI single
from Francisco Plasencia, giving them a 4-1 cushion. Justin
Jones and Atahualpa Severino worked the final 3.2 innings
scoreless to secure the win for Harrisburg. Mejia was hung
with the loss after allowing three runs in three inning. On a
positive note, he retired the final seven men he faced.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Dylan Owen is slated to
make his 20th start of the season tonight for the B-Mets. He
beat Harrisburg in his last start with 6.2 innings of one-run
ball, allowing just five hits August 6 at Metro Bank Park. Owen
is 4-7 with a 5.36 ERA in 100.2 innings with Binghamton this
year. Owen has struggled at home this year with an 8.74 ERA
in 46.1 innings, compared to a 2.48 ERA in 54.1 innings on
the road. Last year, he tied for the Florida State League-lead
with 12 wins with St. Lucie. Owen was the Mets’ 20th-round
pick in 2007 out of Francis Marion University (SC).
RHP Jeff Mandel will make just his fourth start with the Senators
since joining the AA Nationals at the end of July. He
worked eight, shutout innings at Trenton August 7 allowing
just three hits and two walks, but did not factor in the decision.
Mandel is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 22 innings with Harrisburg
thus far. He opened the year in Potomac’s (High-A) rotation,
where he was 8-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 99.2 innings. At
one point, he won six straight starts with the P-Nats April 23-
May 24. Last year, he split the season between Hagerstown
(Low-A) and Potomac as a starting pitcher going 10-9 with a
4.24 ERA over 28 starts. Mandel was the Nationals 19thround
selection out of Baylor University in 2007.
