TODAY’S GAME:
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the final game of a four-game set from Coca-Cola Field (7:05p.m.). The Herd now leads the series 2-1, after a 3-0 shutout victory in yesterday’s game. The Bisons are 7-4 in their last 11 games. After tonight’s series finale, the Herd travels to Syracuse for a two-game set with the Chiefs.
vs. THE I-PIGS:
The Herd is 4-6 against Lehigh Valley this season. Buffalo lost a three-game set in Lehigh Valley (2-1) from May 5-7 and a four-game set here at Coca-Cola Field, May 25-28 (3-1). The Bisons have gone 8-7 (.533) at home against the I-Pigs since Lehigh Valley’s arrival in the IL in 2008.
TEAM SHUTOUT:
The Bisons’ pitching staff was impressive yesterday, as they collectively picked up a shutout in a 3-0 victory. This is the eighth time this season the Herd has shutout an opposing team, five of which have come at home. Six of the eight shutouts have come in the last two months.
REY IT AIN’T SO:
INF Argenis Reyes had his impressive hit streak come to an end yesterday. The infielder’s 14-game hit streak was the second longest of the year for any Bison (behind INF Javier Castillo, 16 games June 26-July 12). During this hit streak that began on August 1, Reyes averaged .413 (26-63) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, seven RBI and eight runs scored.
CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK:
OF Chip Ambres now leads the Bisons hitters with a current hit streak of eight games. During this streak the veteran has averaged .433 (13-30) since August 9. Ambres has six doubles, eight runs-scored, a home run and seven RBI in eight games this homestand. The outfielder has raised his batting average by 34 points during this streak to .254.
