TODAY’S GAME:
This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the final game of a five-game series from Coca-Cola Field (1:05p.m.). With the set tied 2-2, the Herd can earn their second straight series win with a victory today. The Bisons have now won five of their last seven games. Tomorrow, the Bisons welcome in the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for a four-game set, August 14-17.
vs. THE WINGS:
The Herd is 4-6 against Rochester this season. The teams have split the last eight games after the Red Wings won the first two to open the season. Buffalo hitters have faired well against the Wings as the team has posted a .295 batting average in the first 10 games. In particular, C Robinson Cancel (.429, 6-14), INF Wilson Valdez (.381, 8-21) and INF Andy Green (.368, 7-19) have enjoyed facing Rochester pitching.
NOT SO PETTY:
LHP Adam Pettyjohn is coming off his best start of the season. The southpaw threw eight shutout innings on Saturday in Columbus in a 2-1 Bisons win. Pettyjohn struck out seven Clippers and allowed just six hits and no walks. Since joining the Bisons on July 27, the veteran is 2-1 with a 2.65ERA in three appearances. He was 1-6 with a 4.68ERA in his 18 games and six starts with Louisville to start the year.
REY TO BE:
INF Argenis Reyes’ left no doubt last night in extending his hit streak to 12 games. Reyes went 3-4 on Wednesday and has now averaged .370 (20-54) since the streak began on August 1. The streak is tied for the 3rd longest for a Bisons hitter this year (INF Javier Castillo 16 games, 6/26-7/12).
BIG INNINGS:
The Bisons offense has produced a big inning in each of their last three games. The Herd had a 6-run fourth inning in the second game of Monday’s double-dip and a 5-run sixth on Tuesday. Last night, a 5-run third propelled the team to a 7-4 win. Buffalo is hitting .292 (126-432) in August.
