B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

In the final meeting of the season between New
Britain and Binghamton, the Rock Cats took a 7-2 win behind
former Mets farmhand Deolis Guerra. Guerra hurled 6.2 innings
allowing just two runs, one earned, on five hits with five
strikeouts for his sixth win as a member of the New Britain
rotation. The Rock Cats jumped on B-Mets starter Chris Mason
in the first inning with a two-out, two-run single from Wilson
Ramos. Binghamton responded in the fifth, however, with
two runs of their own aided by a Ramos passed ball and an
Emmanuel Garcia sacrifice fly. In the sixth, though, New Britain
answered with three runs on a two-run double from Whit
Robbins followed by an RBI double from Steve Singleton. Both
hits came off reliever Jake Ruckle, but the first two runs were
credited to the starter Mason. Brian Dinkelman put the icing
on the cake in the seventh inning with a two-run blast to right,
extending the lead to 7-2. Mason took the loss after allowing
four runs in five-plus innings. He made the spot start in place
of Brad Holt, who was scratched due to illness.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

LHP Mike Antonini is slated to
start for the 17th time this year for the B-Mets. He pitched
well enough to win in his last start, August 15 at Reading in
Game 1 of the doubleheader. Antonini hurled six innings of
one-run ball and allowed just three hits while striking out six.
He is 5-3 with a 5.08 ERA in 90.1 innings with Binghamton.
Last season, Antonini made eight starts for the B-Mets with a
1-3 record and 3.74 ERA in 45.2 innings, allowing 10 home
runs. He was the Mets’ 18th-round selection in 2007 out of
Georgia College & State University.

RHP Garrett Broshuis gets the call tonight for his ninth start
with the Defenders. Despite allowing a season-high 11 hits in
his last start August 14 versus Erie, he surrendered just three
runs in five innings to snag a no-decision. This is Broshuis’
second start against Binghamton this year. He gave up nine
runs in four innings July 20 at NYSEG Stadium in a losing
effort. With Connecticut in 2009, Broshuis is 3-3 with a 5.20
ERA in 36.1 innings and has allowed 56 hits, which equates
to a .344 opponents batting average. He started off the season
in San Jose’s (High-A) bullpen before moving back into the
rotation May 15. He was 6-1 with a 2.15 ERA in 58.2 innings
in the California League, winning his final four starts before a
promotion to Fresno (AAA), where he made one start before
joining the Defenders. He was drafted by San Francisco in 5th
round of the 2004 draft out of Missouri.

BOWMAN’S BACK:

Since returning for the disabled list August
14, B-Mets third baseman Shawn Bowman has hit in five of
six games with a .421 (8-19) average, including three doubles,
a homer and three RBIs.
