Bisons Add LHP Derrick Ellison to Roster
29-Year Old Began Season in Brewers Organization
The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, today announced that LHP Derrick Ellison has been promoted to the club from Binghamton (AA). To make roster room, C Rafael Arroyo has been transferred to Binghamton.
Ellison will be in uniform and active for tonight’s doubleheader against the Syracuse Chiefs at Coca-Cola Field (Game 1: 6:05 p.m.)
Ellison, 29, signed with the Mets on August 14 and pitched three games with Binghamton. He did not allow a run or a hit in 6.2 innings of work (1-0 record, 2BB, 2K). He began the year with Huntsville (AA) of the Milwaukee Brewers organization and went 2-2 with a 4.45ERA and two saves in 19 games (28.1IP, 21H, 18G, 14ER, 15BB, 26K). He was released in the middle of June and signed on with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Independent Atlantic League. There, Ellison was 1-1 with a 1.42ERA and four saves in 13 outings.
Ellison spent most of the 2008 season with Independent Bridgeport, and appeared in 22 games with a 1.42ERA in 25.1 innings of work. He finished last year with the Brewers’ Brevard (A) club where he was 1-0 with a 2.70ERA in 20.0 innings.
