B-Mets: Game Notes

LAST GAME:
The B-Mets split a twin bill with Reading last
night, losing the first game in heart-breaking fashion, 4-3,
before recovering to shutout the R-Phils 4-0 in Game 2. In the
early game, Ike Davis gave Binghamton the lead in the first on
his 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot to right off
starter Mike Cisco. The B-Mets added another run in the third
on a bases-loaded, double-play groundball from Caleb Stewart.
Reading’s Kevin Nelson quickly answered that with a solo
homer to left-center off starter Mike Antonini to start the next
half inning, bringing the deficit back to two for the Phillies.
Antonini pitched well enough to win, hurling six innings and
allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Things unraveled
in the seventh as Connor Robertson loaded the bases
with nobody out before being pulled. Jose De La Torre followed
and was an out away from bailing out Robertson when
pinch-hitter Tim Kennelly singled down the line at third to
bring in the tying and winning runs. Game 2 was no contest.
Starter Chris Mason and reliever Derrick Ellison held the RPhils
to just three hits over seven innings for a 4-0 shutout
win. Mason struck out five in five innings for his first win and
Jose Coronado led the offensive charge with a 2-4 showing
and an RBI. Jonathan Malo reached base all three times to
the plate and stole two bases.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP GAME 1:
LHP Eric Niesen will
make his 12th start of the year as a member of the B-Mets

6.15 ERA in 52.2 innings with Binghamton, including 30 walks
and 58 strikeouts. He has struck out 18 men over his last 11

he appeared in 26 games for St. Lucie, including 24

Wake Forest.

RHP Mike Stutes will make his 24th start of the season this
afternoon. Last time out, Stutes worked six innings at Trenton
August 11 and surrendered three runs, one earned, on seven
