5-11-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 5-11-12

I want to straighten out one misconception.

I read online that someone said that ‘Toby’ doesn’t think Alex Panteliodis is ‘a prospect’ and the person went on the say that ‘he must be right since Toby knows more about this guy than me’.

Listen, none of us know anything. We ‘think’ something might happen, and some of us (like Toby) has the advantage of seeing the players more often, but it doesn’t matter if it’s him, Rob, Petey,Tej, me, or anyone else. Only John Coppinger can see into the future.

Don’t hang on one person’s opinion. That’s all it is. I said Santana wouldn’t be back. I’m sure Toby said things that didn’t pan out. They just were opinions based on observations.

Right now, my top 10 Mets prospects:

1.     RHSP        Zack Wheeler

2.     RHSP        Matt Harvey

3.     RHSP        Jeurys Familia

4.     RHSP        Jenrry Mejia

5.     3B             Jefry Marte

6.     3B             Wilmer Flores

7.     RHSP        Michael Fulmer

8.     OF             Cory Vaughn

9.     LHRP        Jack Leathersich

10.           LHSP  Alex Panteliodis

AAA-Buffalo:

Elvin Ramirez Watch – I just want to keep this name out there so it won’t come as a surprised when he is promoted to Queens someday. His combined stats in AAA/AA so far this season are: 11-appearances, 15.2-IP, 19-K, 7-BB, 1.15. Oh, did I mention that he ‘sits’ at 95?

OF-C Vinnie Rottino is returned to Buffalo…

One hell of a pitching battle between Garrett Olson and Terry Doyle… the Bisons simply doesn’t score runs for Olson…  6.2IP, 1R, 4H, 10K, 1-BB. 98 pitches/68 strikes… 1B Josh Satin ties it in the 9th

AA-Binghamton:

It figures. 2B Reese Havens is always injured when he’s hitting around .300, but, now that he’s healthy, he’s about to go below the Mendoza line. Havens line after Thursday night: .206/.308/.353/.661. He’s played only 10 games but five of his seven hits came in the first three games. Havens turns 26 this October and has both Danny Muno and Phillip Evans on his tail. After this season he becomes Shawn Bowman.

Big time 5-run first inning, including a 2-run double by 1B Eric Campbell (.293)… they chased big-time prospect pitcher Deck McGuire (7.71) after 0.1-IP… this could be Gonzalez Germen’s last start… the team is operating with a 6-man rotation and German gave up two in the first, raising his seasonal AA ERA to 9.45… remember, he was thrown into this AA job well before he was obviously ready for… CF Matt den Dekker added two more in the 4th with his 4th home run of the season… it just kept getting better… SS Josh Rodriquez hit a 3-run homer in the 6th… throw in an 8th inning homer by Campbell, who gets game ball.

A+ - St. Lucie: -

There isn’t a ball that Wilmer Flores (.319/.351/.500/.851) doesn’t like to swing at… and hit. ‘Flo’ has 116 official at bats, of which only 10 resulted in a strikeout. He also has only six walks. However, check out the stat line. Swing away, dude.

Baseball America: http://ht.ly/1jF4mc

Cory Vaughn, rf, Mets. From No. 2 on Hot Sheet last week to Not-So Hot status this week, Vaughn's value will continue to oscillate from week to week because of the number of strikeouts he accrues. The 23-year-old fanned seven times in five games this week for high Class A St. Lucie and went 1-for-19 (.053) with a walk and a solo home run

Lucy’s playing against another pitcher I wanted the Mets to draft last year, Taylor Jungmann (3.00)… 3B Wilmer Flores’ 5th error in the second produced an unearned run for Cory Mazzoni… Lucy scored three in the eight on singles by Rafael Fernandez and Wilfredo Tovar… then they went nuts in the 9th, scoring six more runs…  bottom four of the lineup (Richard Lucas, Frankie Pena, Fernandez, Tovar) go 9-18…

A – Savannah:

The Mets desperately need a prospect first baseman. Brian Harrison has hit .500 in his past three games, with a home run and 6-RBIs. We’ll keep an eye out here.

T.J. Rivera just won’t behave… hit his 5th homer in the first… a pitching battle for four innings between Tyler Pill and Victor Payano… that weird guy named Rougned Odor doubled in two against Pill in the 5th… 10-Ks for Pill in six innings… two more hits by Brian HarrisonTillman Pugh - .091, Aderlin Rodriguez - .187, Albert Cordero - .169… come on Fred… fuck Brooklyn.

I think Panteliodis is a prospect in the way Gorski is a prospect. One of them will wind up working out of the pen for the big club and the other will wind up on another team.

Mack,

I fear you are far too high on Marte....yes he has a .311 avg but he also has 0 HRs and is SLG a paltry .387

I wouldnt even put him in my Top 10. The community fan rankings at Amazin Avenue have him #30 and Toby Hyde has him #25.

Me personally I would put him at around #15-20.
