B-Mets Ride Big First Inning to 11-4 Win


MANCHESTER,NH – The Binghamton Mets scored five runs in the first inning en route to an11-4 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday night at NortheastDelta Dental Stadium. The B-Mets pounded out 13 hits, including three home runs,and starter Gonzalez Germen fired seven innings in the win.

Matt den Dekker started the attack immediately with a leadoff single off starterDeck McGuire. After a wild pitch moved him to second, Josh Rodriguez gave theB-Mets the lead for good with an RBI single to right. Raul Reyes followed witha hit and Jefry Marte doubled Binghamton’s lead with a run-scoring single tocenter.

AfterMcGuire walked Reese Havens to load the bases, Juan Lagares produced anotherrun by grounding out to short. Eric Campbell ended McGuire’s night with atwo-run double to right centerfield. The righty recorded just one out, hisshortest career outing. By the time Fernando Hernandez struck out Pedro Zapatato end the frame, the B-Mets held a 5-0 lead, the most runs they have scored inthe first this season.

Givena five-run edge, Gonzalez Germen got off to a bumpy start. The right-handerallowed two runs on three hits while walking two in the first inning. Heescaped further damage by inducing Brad McElroy to fly out with the basesloaded to end the inning.

DenDekker kicked the lead back to five with a long-overdue home run in the fourth.The center fielder crushed the first pitch he saw from Matt Daly to right for atwo-run shot. It was Binghamton’s first homer since May 3rd, adrought of 67.0 innings and 277 plate appearances.

JoshRodriguez kept the offense rolling with another homer in the sixth. Theshortstop ripped a three-run shot into the picnic area beyond the left centerfielder fence. Eric Campbell added a solo blast off Aaron Loup in the eighth.It was Binghamton’s first multiple-homer game since they hit three against the PortlandSea Dogs on April 15.

Germensettled down after his spotty first inning, facing the minimum from the secondthrough the sixth. He surrendered one run on three consecutive hits in theseventh before inducing AJ Jimenez to bounce into a fielder’s choice to end hisnight. Germen (1-1) allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out three inseven frames to earn his first Double-A victory.

EdgarRamirez took over in the eighth and wrapped up the game, allowing one run onthree hits in two innings of relief. Mike McDade tagged him for a solo home runin the eighth.

McGuire(1-5) suffered his second loss to Binghamton in 2012. Fernando Hernandez, MattDaly, Matt Wright and Aaron Loup combined to allow eight runs in 8.2 innings ofrelief.
