5-21-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 5-21-12

Every game the Mets play confirms to me that Kirk Nieuwenhuis should be playing in Buffalo.

Andy McCullough‏ -

Dale Thayer has recorded five saves for San Diego. His ERA is 0.00. He has yet to walk a batter. Funny game.

Going into Sunday's game, Bobby Parnell hadn't allowed an earned run over his last 10 outings, Since April 23, he has posted a 0.75 ERA

Michael Baron‏ -

Mets starting pitchers are 0-2 with a 7.83 ERA in their last five games and overall, their 4.31 ERA is 23rd in the Major Leagues

AAA-Buffalo:

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that RHP JEFF STEVENS and RHP EDGAR RAMIREZ have been activated to the club’s roster. The Mets today recalled RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN from the Buffalo Bisons. The Bisons also announced that INF MICHAEL FISHER has been transferred to the Double-A Binghamton Mets.

The Bisons spot started Jack Egbert, who was only used for two innings (3-H, 2-R, 1-ER)…  Chuck James pitched three great innings, but was followed by the newly arrived Edgar Ramirez… two runs crossed the plate in the seventh, one caysed by Jordany Valdespin’s second error of the game…

CF Cory Wimberly stole home plate in the first, a first for the Bisons in the past eight seasons…

Last 14 Bisons out in order…only two hits… say goodnight, Gracie…

Six home runs one night, two hits the next afternoon. Baseball.

AA-Binghamton:

RHP Kevin Mulvey was reinstated from disabled list.

It isn’t a coincidence that Jordany Valdespin is playing 2Bat the same time that Reese Havens is tanking in Binghamton. The Mets need to move on when it comes to havens and ‘Spin’, for now, I the here apparent to Daniel Murphy someday. That being said, there are no plans to move Murph out of that position on the Mets unless David Wright is traded (see the 10am post for more on this).

SP Greg Peavey was back on the bump looking for the magic he seems to have misplaced… still didn’t find it: 5.0-IP, 8-H, 3-ER, 2-K, 3-BB, 5.45.

It took seven innings for the B-Mets to not score in an inning… but then Portand woke up against Kevin Mulvey

A+ - St. Lucie: -

Michael Baron:

Wilmer Flores is very strong and tall as he towers over most of his teammates, despite being just 20 years old. He has good gap-to-gap power, but until this year, had yet to develop the consistent home run power many people believe he was capable of producing. He also hadn’t hit for a high average and in 2011 he saw his extra base hit numbers decrease substantially from 2010, and so it’s fair to say Wilmer needs to make great strides offensively in 2012. So far, so good for Flores.

Lucy broke the ice in the sixth when Cory Vaughn scored on a throwing error… Lakeland tied it up in the bottom of the seventh…

Only three hits for Lucy…excellent outing by Cuan (6.1-IP, 0-ER) wasted…

A – Savannah:

1B Brian Harrison has hit .432/.475/.676/1.151  in the last 10 games…

Sunday was OF Carlos Gomez’ first Sand Gnat game of the season… of course, he singled in his first at-bat…

Aderlin Rodriguez and Harrison stay hot, both driving in runs…

Rafael Montero had a + quality start: 6.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R,5-K, 2-BB, 2.64. He’s progressing very well…

Wimberly is another of those good Sandy AAAA signees that are necessary to have in the system for emergency purposes.

You love that he's around but you pray he never has to be promoted because that means someone went down.
