B-Mets Walk-Off Winners in Series Finale,2-1

BINGHAMTON,NY – Josh Rodriguez singled to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning to bring home Pedro Zapata with thegame-winning run in Binghamton’s 2-1 walk-off win over the Harrisburg Senatorson Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The game was the B-Mets first walk-offwin of the season.

Zapatastarted the ninth with a single off reliever Marcos Frias (0-2) and moved tosecond on a groundout. With two outs, Rodriguez shot a groundball through the holeinto right field. Zapata rounded third and scored without a throw after ChrisRahl bobbled the ball in the outfield. It was Binghamton’s first hit with arunner in scoring position after going 0-for-11 to start the game.

Losersof two straight, Binghamton sent Greg Peavey to the mound hoping to avoid thesweep. The righty delivered with his longest appearance of the season, allowingjust one unearned run over seven innings. He struck out three and allowed justfour hits in the no-decision.

Harrisburgscored their only run on a throwing error in the fourth. With two outs in ascoreless game, Chris Rahl attempted to steal third base. Catcher Juan Centeno’sthrow to third was off target and rolled into left field, allowing Rahl toscore.

Binghamtontied the game in the fifth on a throwing error by Harrisburg’s catcher. Withthe bases loaded, Reese Havens sent a chopper to first that Tim Pahuta fieldedand fired to the plate to nab Peavey. Sandy Loen’s throw back to first bouncedoff Havens’ helmet and allowed Matt den Dekker to score from second to tie thegame.

FollowingPeavey’s strong outing, Armando Rodriguez (1-0) took the reins in the eighth.The righty threw two scoreless innings without allowing a hit and earned hisfirst win thanks to Binghamton’s rally in the ninth.

RobertGilliam started for the Senators and did not factor into the decision. Therighty allowed one unearned run on five hits and struck out six over sixinnings. Patrick McCoy added an inning of scoreless relief for Harrisburg.

TheB-Mets (14-15) start a three-game series tomorrow night against the New BritainRock Cats at 6:35 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound for Binghamton againstLHP Andrew Albers. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
