BLUECLAWS SNAPGNATS WINNING STREAK 4-0 SUNDAY


Savannah, GA - Allgood things must come to an end. Sunday, the Lakewood BlueClaws snapped theSavannah Sand Gnats’ six-game winning streak with a 4-0 decision at HistoricGrayson Stadium. The BlueClaws earned their first road win since April 10.

Lakewood (10-18) scored the game’s first runs in the bottom of thefifth off Savannah starter RafaelMontero. After a single and a walk, 2B GustavoGonzalez brought home the game’s first run with a groundball single throughthe left side. Two batters later, RF GauntlettEldemire singled into right field to plate the inning’s second run.

Montero lasted five innings, yielding two runs on five hits andtwo walks while striking out three. He fell to 2-2 with the loss. Monteroentered Sunday with only one walk in 27.2 innings, but twice walked BlueClaws’shortstop Tyler Greene to triple hisseason walk total.

The BlueClaws doubled their lead to 4-0 in the sixth with atwo-run home run from LF Aaron Altherr, hissecond.

The Gnats (18-13) collected justfour hits in the game, and only put one runner on third base all game.  SS TJRivera was 2-for-4 to lift his batting average to .368 in 29 games forSavannah.

Lakewood reliever Mike Nesseth threw three shutoutinnings to pick up his second win of the season, while Matt Campbell took care of the final five outs for his first saveof 2012.

The Gnats and BlueClaws face offin game three of the four-game set Monday at 7:05 pm. The Gnats have notannounced a starter, while the BlueClaws will turn to LHP Ethan Stewart (0-1, 2.19).
