LAST GAME: The New Britain Rock Cats scored three runs with two outs in the ninth inning, highlighted by Nate Hanson’s two-run double, to defeat the Binghamton Mets 4-3 last night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets held a 3-1 edge heading to the ninth, but the Rock Cats took advantage of Jefry Marte’s throwing error in the comeback win. It was Carson’s first career save opportunity. Mark Cohoon allowed just one unearned run over six innings of work in the no-decision. The B-Mets pounded out nine hits against New Britain starter Andrew Albers, but managed just one hit against three Rock Cats relievers. Daniel Turpen tossed two scoreless innings to collect his third win.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Collin McHugh (4-2, 2.62) makes his team-leading seventh start of the season. The right-hander collected his fourth win in his previous start against the Akron Aeros on May 3. McHugh went a season-high 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts. He has held opponents to a .198 batting average this season. McHugh, an 18th round draft pick by the Mets in 2008, was the B-Mets Pitcher of the Year last year after going 8-2 with a 2.89 ERA over 16 starts.

RHP Steve Hirschfeld (2-3, 3.38) makes his seventh start of the season and looks to snap a three-game losing streak. He allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits over six innings in a loss in his last start against the Harrisburg Senators on May 3. The righty has surrendered a total of 27 hits over his last three starts, all defeats. Selected by the Twins out of San Diego State University in the 9th round of the 2007 draft, Hirschfeld is in his sixth pro season and third with the Rock Cats.
