FLASH: Mejia to Double AA Binghamton

The Mets have announced that Jenrry Mejia's next start will be for the Binghamton Mets.

(**This seems like a preclude to a trip to Queens. If the plan was to keep him in the minors then he would've stayed in St. Lucie until his "rehab" starts we're finished. The real question now is bullpen or rotation? Perhaps a game in Binghamton and then another one in Buffalo before heading to Queens is in order as well.)

Mejia needs the year at AAA as a starter. I am against the idea of him in the bullpen period and not hot on the thought of him thrust into Pelfrey's spot in the rotation, either.

I want him to pitch 80-100 innings for Buffalo as a starter this year.

I disagree with Stephen...

Jerry Manuel did everything he could to screw up this kid and his "head" still survived.

Yes, the SP-RP=SP thing did hurt his arm, but half this game is mental and everything shruggs off this kid.

He was lights out at AAA when he went down last year... he's ready for whatever they dish out.

The Mets believe they have a shot for a playoff spot THIS year. I think they're nuts, but the important thing is THEY believe it...

they need both an SP4 and SP5...

I look for Jenrry to be in the Mets rotation come June 1st

Mack I'm not saying you're incorrect in the prediction--you are probably spot on. I'm just saying that I would rather him have the year in AAA to fully heal beyond the shadow of a doubt, get important innings against near-MLB caliber hitters, and all of this under the tutelage of trainers and coaches who will help him get ready for 2013. I still don't think the Mets are contenders this year and risking Mejia's arm again to get reinforcements in the bullpen is just an awful idea.

SG - I agree that's what the Mets should do, but Fred will bang Sandy over the head with his new cane if they don't make a run for it this year. Attendance will rise, revenue will rise, more bad investments will be hatched...

I personally think the jury is still not out yet...

If he pitches extremely well over his next two starts...HE WILL take the #4 starter's spot.

If he pitches just OK then he'll slide into the bullpen.

If he pitches poorly....AAA.

well, TC just mentioned the "relief" word again...

I'm lost...

maybe Elvin Ramirez will start

I'll get precise wording on blog later, but TC did use the words reliever and Mejia in the same sentence.

Damn your hands are quicker than mine mack
