GNATS BOILED CLAWS IN 6-1 WIN TUESDAY


Savannah, GA - The SavannahSand Gnats boiled the Lakewood BlueClaws with a 6-1 win Tuesday night atHistoric Grayson Stadium. The Gnats finished their seven game home stand at 6-1while the teams’ pitching allowed just 10 runs. Overall, the Gnats are 8-1 intheir last nine games.

TheGnats (20-12) scored first, with four tallies in the bottom of the secondinning. After DH Travis Taijeronsingled, and 1B Brian Harrisondoubled, SS Luis Nieves, CF Tillman Pugh and 3B Brandon Brown all contributed RBIsingles. C Cam Maron completed theinning’s scoring with a groundout to first.

Taijeron,the reigning SAL Player of the Week, reached base in all four of his plateappearances going 2-for-2 with a single, a double and two runs scored.

TheBlueClaws (10-20) scored their only run in the top of the fourth againstSavannah starter Alex Panteliodis.Panteliodis, who was not involved in the decision, finished four innings,yielding a run on five hits and two walks while striking out five.

TheGnats bullpen of Jeff Walters, JackLeathersich and Estarlin Morelcombined on five scoreless, hitless innings behind Panteliodis. Walters earnedthe win, his second of the year, for working the fifth and sixth innings.

Harrisonlaunched a two run homer, his second, in the bottom of the eighth inning tocomplete the game’s scoring.
