Defensive miscues continue to put a damper on the Bisons the past few games.
The Herd couldn't shake off errors in the field in a 6-3 loss to the Indians, Tuesday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.
The Bisons defense during their series with Indy committed 12 errors, including three more in the series finale
'We've made mental mistakes," Manager Wally Backman said. "There isn't much of an excuse to make, we just need to play better defensively."
With Jeff Clement batting in the first inning, Chris Schwinden threw a wild pitch to score Anderson Hernandez for a 1-0 Bisons deficit. In an attempt to throw out Hernandez, catcher Jean Luc Blaquiere's throw was offline to Schwinden, scoring Alex Presley on the error to make it 2-0 Indy early on.
With the Bisons behind 3-0 in the third, Starling Marte led off the inning with a single. With Hernandez up at the plate, Marte stole second and Blaquiere's attempt throw sailed into centerfield.
The error would set up Hernandez to single home Marte and make it a 4-0 lead.
"I'm hoping this off-day tomorrow will help us get it together mentally and physically," Backman added. "A couple of our guys have been banged up so they need the rest."
Bisons tried to rally in the bottom of the fourth, but came up short in doing so. With the bases loaded an now outs, the Herd plated a pair with RBI groundouts by Quintanilla and Blaquiere.
In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, Matt Tuiasosopo hit an infield single to score Corey Wimberly and cut the Indians lead to 4-3 but it wasn't enough as Brad Emaus grounded into a force out to end the inning.
BISONS NOTES: Corey Wimberly is currently on a six-game hit streak (11-24, .458) after a 2-4 day at the plate with a run scored... Buffalo have not won a series against the Indians since 2004, the Indians now have ten series of 3-1 and five splits...
