5-23-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 5-23-12

"Nobody roots for Goliath." - Wilt Chamberlain

Mets:

Mets acquire Mike Piazza from Marlins on 5/22/98 for Preston Wilson, Ed Yarnall and Geoff Goetz

AAA-Buffalo:

INF Mike Fisher transferred from Binghamton (AA) to Buffalo (AAA)… yesterday, he was transferred from Buffalo to Binghamton… whatever.

I like the matchup: Chris Schwinden vs. Jo- Jo Reyes… Reyes just pitched his scheduled inning while Schwinden probably should have left early too… 4IP, 4R/2ER, 6H, BB, 2K. Pitches: 76-46 strikes…

(I still can’t believe that Anderson Hernandez is still playing organized ball…)

To be honest, the only guys hitting on this team are not future major leaguers, and, to be even more honest, there may not be ANY future every day major league players on this team right now.

Justin Hampton and Josh Edgin pitched well, but it was Fernando Cabrera’s turn to take the hit.

Bad game.

AA-Binghamton:

Tough team to get your hands around…

Both Collin McHugh and Brad Holt pitched well today, combining for only one, three-run inning.

The bats scattered nine hits but scored nothing. Reese Havens sat the bench while Matt den Dekker (.310) and Eric Campbell (.310 also) had two his each, but den Dekker also stuck out three times. Remember this, if you never see den Dekker in Queens it will be because of the strikeouts.

Only one extra base hit, a double by Raul Reyes (.250).

C Kai Gronauer… .148.

A+ - St. Lucie: -

You play a game at 10:30 in the morning so you can finish early and get out of town to your next destination… what you don’t do is go into extra innings…

Lucy scored three in the 6th inning, around C Frankie Pena’s single, Juan Torres’ HBP, Joe Bonfe’s walk a run scoring double-play by Wilfredo Tovar and a 2-run double by Zo Harris. They had the lead 5-3, but allowed Daytona to tie it up and head it to overtime.

Pitching was marginal at best. Cory Mazzoni (3.38) had another non-quality start, Jack Leathersich 6.75) was welcomed to A+ ball, and only Ryan Fraser 2.13) was able to post two scoreless innings. John Church (2.93) gives up the walkaway in the 10th

Highlight of the game: It’s over.

Jack Leathersich‏ -

“Tough loss today.... I needa be better than that. Will get em”
