The Bisons mistakes in the top of the ninth proved to be too costly to overcome.
A pair of throwing errors by Oswaldo Navarro and Lucas May aided the Indians in the Bisons 8-6 loss Monday night at Coca-Cola Field.
Going into the ninth of a tie game, Navarro, who replace starting shortstop Omar Quintanilla an inning before, attempted to throw out Indians batter Starling Marte at first but throw was wide left. The error put Marte at second with no outs.
After a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt by Alex Presley, Lucas May fired a throw to first to try to get Presley but the throw is offline.
Indy put a third man on base when pitcher Josh Edgin hit Matt Hague with a pitch. That set up Jordy Mercer to win the game with a two-run single to give the Indians an 8-6 lead.
The Bisons as a team have committed nine errors in the past three games during their series against Indy. It is the Herd's second straight loss to the Indians.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh down 6-3, the Bisons tried to ignite a go-ahead rally but fell short in doing so.
Wimberly and Lewis got things going with back-to-back singles with one out. Wimberly scored on a pass ball by Jose Morales to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Pascucci would tack on another run to make it 6-5, a sacrifice fly to bring in Lewis.
Navarro doubled in the bottom of the eighth to bring in Dustin Martin to tie the game at 6. No rally began in the ninth as Doug Slaten put down the Bisons in order 1-2-3.
BISONS NOTES: Mets recalled Vinny Rottino, optioned Chris Schwinden back to the Herd...Val Pascucci has a team-leading 34 RBI....Josh Satin continues his hot hitting, 6-11 the past four games and 6 walks.
