Marte Delivers in B-Mets Walk-Off Win, 1-0



BINGHAMTON,NY – Jefry Marte ripped a single to right with the bases loaded to giveBinghamton a 1-0 walk-off win over the Trenton Thunder Wednesday night at NYSEGStadium. It was the B-Mets’ second walk-off win of the season and first 1-0 victorysince they defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the second game of adoubleheader on July 14, 2011.

Mattden Dekker set the table in the inning by doubling to left centerfield againstreliever Preston Claiborne. The two-bagger extended his hitting streak toeleven games, the longest for any B-Met in 2012. Josh Rodriguez followed bybunting up the third base line and reached safely when Claiborne failed tohandle the tough bouncer.

Awalk to Reese Havens loaded the bases and set the stage for Marte. The B-Mets thirdbaseman laced a 2-1 offering into right to secure Binghamton’s fourth one-runvictory of the season.

Marte’s hit ended a game that had as a pitcher’s duel. B-Mets starter Collin McHugh struckout six over seven scoreless innings, retiring the final nine Thunder he faced.He walked just one and allowed six hits. It was the longest scoreless start forMcHugh since he tossed seven shutout frames as a Brooklyn Cyclone on August 8,2009.

BrettMarshall was just as good for the Thunder. The 22-year-old matched McHugh withseven scoreless frames of his own, retiring 14 straight B-Mets at one point inthe game. The righty surrendered just two hits and struck out two.

BradHolt entered in relief in the eighth and worked around a two-out walk to post ascoreless frame. He worked around another two-out walk in a shutout ninth. Marte’ssingle made Holt (1-0) the winner. Claiborne (1-2) suffered the loss.
