Mid-March Review – Four Men That Need a Plane Ticket… Home

AA-RP Eric Turgeon – The Mets sent Turgeon to winter ball last season and many Mets pundits (including me) thought that was a waste of a slot. It was and it is. Turgeon has done nothing this year to support any more time on a Mets roster. For the season: 10-appearances, 8.76, 2.43. Yes, that’s right… a 2.43 WHIP. There are a couple of Lucy kids that would gladly fight over this slot.

AAA-IF Michael Fisher – Fisher has only managed to get himself 24 at bats this season. He’s hitting .125/.160/.125/.285.He turned 27 in March and his time is basically over. I’d like to see Rylan Sandoval get this slot so either Robbie Shields or Danny Muno can replace Reese Havens in Binghamton.

AA-1B Travis Ozga – we all thought we wouldn’t have to worry about first base for awhile, and this might not be true. The Mets number one option, Alan Dykstra, is down for the season count. Ozga has done nothing in Binghamton (.179), after two marginal seasons in St. Lucie and Savannah. It’s time to convert 3B Wilmer Flores to first and this slot is ripe for picking.

AA-C Kai Gronauer – I used to have easy access to Kai, but that changed since the injury. I assume he’s still hurting and his effort this year in Binghamton (.143) is dismal. I hate the Mets platoon system for catchers. Kai splits time with left-hand hitter Juan Centeno  (.276) who gets the lion share of games. It’s time to make room for someone else, even though no other catcher in the system is earning it right now.
